I've heard that since Jan, of this year, the SRs are allowed to have their cell phones on Sundays and are not required to send them home in the box.

What does anyone know about this?

I'm looking at getting my SR a 100 min phone card to go along with the ones that callsforrecruits sent him. If he will be allowed to take his cell phone, then I see no need in getting him the phone card.

Just a tid bit of information. My SR called USAA about his car insurance while he is in bootcamp. They told him that as long as his vehicle was not moved for 21 consecutive days, they would drop his car insurance down to $15 a month. It was actually a percentage, but his came out to this amount.
It is Definitely work checking into.

Our cell phone co has also told us that they would not charge us for his line while he is in bootcamp if we wanted to suspend his number. I've chosen to keep it on just in case any of his friends or such call. We don't pay that much for his line.

Hi Karen. What are the calls for recruits ?

Thanks

Betty

Bet http://callsforrecruits.org/ provide free calling cards to recruits. I got some and sent them to my son while he was in boot camp, they gave me 6 - 20min cards and if I would have needed more I could have gotten them.

Hey Karen P. my son just graduated from boot camp 6/1 and they were not allowed to have their phone.  It came back in the box with all of his other stuff.  I did send him with a phone card and he was able to use that but they don't get a lot of phone time.

My son just graduated boot camp on 6/1/12 and he was not allowed to have his cell phone, it came home in the box (phone in one shoe and battery in the other).  He got to call home the night that he arrived, 1 call around week 3 and then several calls the weekend before PIR since they had already done battlestations.  He got to write almost every Sunday, but even that was not for certin.   Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone you all were a huge help...as always.

He is going to take his cell phone so that he can let us know when his plane leaves and such.

Sorry for all the questions.

Karen P - My son just graduated - they are not allowed a cell phone at all during boot camp.

not sure where you "heard" they are allowed to keep their cell phones while in bootcamp and can use them on Sundays.  That information is false, please let whomever told you that know that they are giving out bad information to people.

If you are ever wondering what they can and cannot take, refer to the official RTC website at www.bootcamp.navy.mil

Under the "recruits" tab, there are lists of what and what not to bring.  Don't bring anything that is not on the list.  When in doubt, follow the instructions exactly and you can't go wrong.

Our son started bootcamp the end of January and he had to send his cell hone home.

Karen, I believe that whomever told you this about the phones had someone in Army Boot Camp. I had a friend who went through OCS (Navy Officers School) and they got to keep their cell phones (and their car at the facillity)

Also, I know a SR there right now who arrived mid May and her cell phone came back.

Hi - My daughter left for BC May 29th and her cell phone was returned...I mailed her a phone card with my first letter.  She also called her cell phone company about suspending account but found out that there was more of a hassle and she would still have to pay her bill so we kept it on as well.
