Hello,

Was this your first phone call?  I would love another call today lol

This was my 1st call. He had to get his wisdom teeth taken out this week and that's why he didn't call.

My son had his wisdom theeth pulled too.  I didn't even get to see his 'chipmunk' cheeks.  I wonder if they gave him his teeth to put under his pillow. LOL!

is my bf the only one that is miserable there? i think a big part of it is missing me. he isvery mentally tough but says he is bored and unhappy :(
My son has said he was bored before the training, but he loves the guys he's with and that helps a lot.

I heard there is a lot of "hurry up and wait time".  That's probably the bored time.  Just make sure your letters are upbeat and positive.  Let him know how proud you will be to see him graduate.  Don't tell him how miserable you are without him. (even tho we ALL are.)  Remember the guys in this Division are in for much worse than what they are expericing now.  JUST BE POSITIVE!!  It will make a big difference in their attitude.

i am always upbeat in my letters . he just feels awful he cant be with me.hes more quiet and is just wishing he was somewhere else . i try to make him feel better and be happy. he worries about the future

sday, it should get better. They do miss home during BC because of the lack of communication and access to the outside world. Once he moves over to PreBuds he will be able to call every night and have more freedom. I knw my son at one point was wondering what he got himself into, but that eventually changed.

sday it sounds like you are doing the right things.  My SR commented on how much he misses just hearing music!  I hadn't thought of that.  He use to always make fun of his dad because every evening he would watch this one news show. After awhile we all kind-of got into it.  Now he feels so lost not knowing what is going on in the world.  It's the simple little things we take for granted that seem big to our guys right now.

I stay positive in my letters by telling him I'm proud of his choice to serve his country. My son is so passionate about what he is doing, he says that's what keeps him going. He did say in his letter he missed listening to music. In his phone call he sounded up beat and excited about what he's doing. I just encourage him and remind him BC is just a blip in the whole scheme of his goal. I'm a proud momma :-)

i know.. i cant even imagine how isolating it is. im glad i can be here forhim to help lift his spirits :)

Good morning, friends. Just a few weeks left till PIR, we--my son's fiance, my wife and I--are all doing the happy dance here because July 6 will be here so soon. The suggestions about what to bring from this group have helped a lot, and we're much better prepared for it. We are staying at the Navy Lodge, mostly because it's cheap and close. Our plans include a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry where they have that submarine U-505 on display inside a huge room. We figured our SR would like that because he saw the movie about its capture. He told me in his phone call some of his buddies are homesick, but that letters from home will make a big difference!
