For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

boot camp/graduation
so...my son was to leave april 3rd from shreveport louisiana, plane delayed due to tornadoes in the dallas area...actually left thur april 5th...made it to great lakes, illinois...made the call at 12:06 am on fri (good fri)...we could not even talk, just said he made it there safe and would talk to me in 3 to 4 weeks...it has been harder than i ever thought, even after talking to people on this web site...which i am still thankful for...received his "box"....so sad kinda...i have been so weepy but i am getting better, living for the day of graduation...does anyone know when i'll maybe get a letter and a note about graduation date? i want to write so badly and i "really" want to know what he's been doing and going thru...just needed to vent mostly...

i'm wanting to cry already!! so proud and just can't wait to see my SR face!! :) thank you, this has been very helpful...like someone said earlier i guess i'll just have to keep cking the weather to see how to dress especially now that i know we'll have to stand outside for a while...I just want to get the most out of this visit as possible...

single...ya'll won't be standing outside long. The lines form inside a building. If you take the shuttle you'll have to walk about a 1/4 mile or so...but it's all flat. You get to see the newer divisions marching. I don't think my feet touched the ground once!

I need clarification about military id's for entry into PIR. My father has a "retired reserve" navy id. Will this allow him entry w/o name on my SR list?

Yes this will allow him entry. Please print out this Family Guide (clickable link) from the Recruit Training Command website.
We also have a Survival Guide for Navy For Moms Newbie (clickable link). You'll find everything you need to get started. Videos, PDF files of boot camp processing days, links to all the important groups plus tips on how to use this site. Keep in mind the videos and PDF files may take some time to download the first time you try it. It'll look like nothing is happening. Be patient.

LOL. Glad you think it's funny. Most who go thru the Survival Guide get overwhelmed reading it. Print out that Family Guide - in fact, make several copies - soon you'll know so much - your recruit will say, "Mom, you have been on Navy For Moms again!"

Thanks BunkerQB! I looked at that and it mentions appropriate uniform attire. Needless to say, my father retired 50+years ago and no uniform. I gather that is for active military?

Our recruiter said he would have her address in about a week after she left so I plan on contacting him next week for that information. He said he wold also have the graduation date for us. Have any other moms contact the recruiters for this information?

Go ahead and write as soon as you get an address but use the one on the form letter as soon as you get it - that will have the official PIR date, password for parking and other info. Click on the Survival Guide above for general information. Make sure you read the Family Guide. Here is an example of the form letter. Save this.

No reason to bug your recruiter. You will receive the information soon enough, and often times the recruiters info is not accurate. Start writing your letters to your SR now and number the envelope so you know the order to send them. Otherwise, just hang in there.
FWIW, I'm sure these recruiters hate being bugged for this info as like any salesman, their job is done.

I'm in the boat you are. My son just shipped out yesterday June 12, 2012. I called the call: I got here safe, can't talk, you'll get a box with my stuff in about a week, and I can call and write in 3-4 weeks. So my husband and I have been crying off and on for 3 days. I want so badly just to call him and ask how is first day was. That is the hardest thing for me is not that he is across the country but that I can't talk or text him when ever I want.

I still cry off and on. But I still have 3 kids at home, am a full-time college student, and work part-time, so I don't have the problem of not staying busy, except at night. More then missing him, I miss being able to call him and ask how he's doing.
