June 6

My son is in Division 937 and I am already so excited to attend PIR. Has anyone made their hotel reservations yet or am I the only one so anxious she did it BEFORE receiving the official letter?

So far I've only received the "I got here call" and "the box." Reminded me of birth -- naked they came into civilian life and naked they left it for the Navy :)

What a journey we are all on together!

Even though they've been getting IT she still loves it :) that's great! My son is an HM so he won't need the clearances to make people feel better. Keep filling us in -- you are like our eyes on the inside!

dgnnp,

You said "She also said that the group had already gotten IT twice" What is IT?

WOW, that is awesome. What a wonderful and thoughtful daughter you have. My daughter called my cell while she was waiting at the airport. She knew I would have a long stretch on my 2 hours drive back from seeing her off at MEPS where I didn't have cell service. So she picked that time to call so she could leave me a message on my phone. She told me that she was very happy and for the first time in a long time she felt like she had a purpose in life. She was excited and ready for bootcamp. She told me how much she appreciated me and all I had done for her,  she loved me more than I could ever imagine and she knew this would be hard for both of us but we are strong and we can do this. I can tell you every time I was missing her really bad I would go listen to that message and I think she knew that and why she made the call when she knew it would go to voice mail. Of course she called again right before she boarded the plane and again while she was waiting on the bus at the airport in Chicago.  It is such an adventure a young country girl who had never been to big city like that. Not that she got to see any of it lol. She was also in the performing division like your recruits are and she was in the choir right in the front. It was AMAZING :-) If anyone has any questions at all please let me know, I am happy to help :-)

What a wonderful story and such a thoughtful daughter! Must be great to be able to hear her voice whenever your heart starts aching. Her gift to you was so special! Sounds like you are a great mom and that she really loves you a lot. :)

Did your daughter ever talk about the extra time they spend preparing for performances? And, how much performing do they do? I am so glad my son is in 937 -- he is both a singer and a drummer, both of which he did until he left. I imagine it's great to participate in something you love along with the stuff you might not be loving so much :)

She sais the extra practices/activies would mostly be on Saturdays, so I am guessing that it should start today. I think she will enjoy this division. She likes to stay busy and likes challenges.

I'm still wondering what IT is as well. I'm going to see if I can find out from m son's father. He was in the Navy, maybe he'll know. I'm suprised to hear my son's in the performing division. Not sure for what but I'm excited. All he did growing up was play football. He is very outspoken, like me, so I hope he's not the one getting everyone in trouble?

I think it means Intensive training I have no idea~~lol  Sounds good but I really think that is it

Need help/advice with a question..Has any one taken their pet or heard/know of anyone that has traveled to Great Lakes with a dog? I know that only service animals are allowed at PIR, but am toying with the idea of taking my daughter's dog, (and my dog too) with us so that she can see her dog one last time. She will be attending A school in California so I doubt we will ever carry the dog that far. If we take the dogs, we will drive even though we would have to make it a 2 day trip. No plans to fly with the dogs. My daughter's dog is a great/content flyer, but my dog is horrible, even when sedated. According to the website, the Residence Inn is supposed to be pet-friendly, but have not called to be sure. Just wondering about silly things, like if she gets dog hair on her uniform, even though we will have a lint brush, or since she has already left him for boot camp, is it better to let that be the last good-bye for a while?? I am an over-thinker, so am likely making too big of a deal about this, but would like to hear other thoughts about this. My brain says to leave them at home, but my heart wants to take them.

I know that is a hard decision to make. I know for me it would have been too much. We drove 16 hours to get there and we spent very little time in the hotel room. We only got to spend Friday with our Sailor and she had been cooped up on that base for 8 weeks so she was ready to go somewhere lol. I see others say their Sailors took a nap and shower and hung out at the hotel but no way was our daughter gonna spend her only day with us sleeping. She said she could sleep on the plane lol. I know there are some who have taken their dogs so maybe you can find someone who actually did it and see how it worked out for them and if they recommend it. Diannep, opne of the veteran moms on here may have some info for you if you post your comment on the group page. We normally don't have a lot of time to look for posts in the discussion pages because we help out on 7 or 8 PIR groups at a time. I am sure you will make the best decision for both your pets and your soon to be Sailor :-)

Ooh. Hadn't thought about it like that. Might not be a good idea to take them. Think I may get a siter for them while we are gone to PIR, and just send her letters from the dogs.

Just got the form letter and learned my son's ship and division.  So glad to have the opportunity to talk with other navy mom's who know exactly what I am going through....I miss my son!!!  But am so proud at the same time.

My son, Nick swore in on 6/5 out of Sacramento, Calif..  We got the 10 second phone call around 9pm that night...he sounded good.  We got the box last Friday...very weird feeling...kept looking for a little note or something...nope just clothes and backpack.

My husband and I have been so anxious to get the form letter so we could send letters...and then it came today!!!  First letter out in the mail today!   Having him gone has been harder than I thought it would be but each day it's getting a little easier.  I think it will help more now that we can write.  As hard as it is, I wouldn't have it any other way...he has worked long and hard for this (took almost a year to get through the process).  I grew up in the military...lived on Air Force bases till I was 18 years old...it's a great way of life with lots of great experiences.  I will try to keep all that in mind when I'm missing him.

Haven't made hotel or plane reservations yet...will be doing that this weekend.  Does anyone know what the name of Ship 02 is?  According to the info I've read on this site they are named for real ships...just wondering which one 02 is.
