My SR called me today!! :-) So wonderful to hear his voice. He needed some family info for the background check for his security clearance. It was like a miracle that I got to talk with him today, I SO needed it with things going on separate from him being gone. He said everything was going good, and that it is about like he expected, although he is sick (he said it comes with the territory of lack of sleep, run ragged, and in and out at all hours). He said it wasn't bad though, so all of you DIV 19 moms take heart - he didn't say anything bad about any of it. And from what we talked about, I got the impression that he was speaking freely. He did say that they took all of his letter writing stuff, and that Sunday will be the first opportunity to write letters if they earn it. So watch those mailboxes! Thanks to all of you for being there for me too!!

Did he mention what day they're on in boot camp?

Does anyone know what day our SRs are on??

My son left on May 16th (got to BC on the 17th) so does that make this Day 21? I'm not sure how they count. Do the P days get counted? How many days are there total til PIR?

What I do know is there are the P-days, which are usually 5 days, unless you have to go on P-hold because there weren't enough sailors to fill a division. In that case you wait for more sailors to arrive and go through their P-days. Then the real counting starts. And they count the days and weeks. Like the first day of the first week is 1-1, the first day of the second week is 2-1, and so on. I'm fairly certain there are 5 days in a week, and they do not count Sundays. Not sure about Saturdays, because the whole 5-days-in-a-week thing. But I think I'm fairly close when I guess that they are on 2-4, or 2-3. I believe the last day is 8-5, which would be PIR. But this is all info from reading around online.

Very good! You got it almost exactly! :-)

This is how it goes:

"P" days...just like you said.

Then there are 6 Weeks of Training Days (DOT - Say of Training. Your SR might write something like DOT 2-5. This is the 2nd week of actual training...day 5.)

So the last actual DOT is 6-5. Week 6 Day 5. After that they don't really "count" them anymore.

The last 7-10 days of BC are for the Divisions to go through Battlestations, do Captains Cup (the Saturday before PIR)...which is a competition between the Divsions of a TG, and PIR day.

Saturdays and Sundays do not count in the "counting of days" of BC.

So in an ideal situation for an eight week Boot Camp it is the week of "P" days, six weeks of training and then the last week for Battlestations and PIR. The possible "P" hold or "push" divisons make BC 7.5 to 9 weeks for a Recruit. Around Christmas time BC can run 10 weeks because of the two week "stand down" for the staff. Recruits do not arrive during that time and so some are stuck in P Hold for the two week duration! Bummer!

Since the Recruits all arrive on different days...the Divisions within a Training Group (TG) are not all formed on the same day. So while all of the Divisions will have the one PIR date...not all of the Divisions are on the same DOT while in BC.

BUT Brother Divisions will be on the same DOT and will do Battlestations together!

I hope that makes sense! :-D

When my son wrote to me, he told me his bunkmate's dad is an editor at NY times and another good friend is from Iowa who's dad is a Captain....anybody out there who meets these descriptions...would love to connect!!!  He took me through the first 7 days...it was very interesting to know how he handled the up's and downs.  Looking forward to PIR.  My prayers are for all our SR's

If he meets a young father from Tennessee... I am his wife!

A lot of us got calls last night.  My phone call wasn't as positive as the rest.  Their RDC sounds like he is pretty tough, but I am sure for a reason.  I have put my son in the Lord's hands and pray every day for all of the SRs.  Hope you hear soon, if you have not already.  I made reservations at the Marriott Courtyard.  It is a little more than I wanted to spend but after reading the reviews on some of the other hotels and having done traveling in my past life, (Marriott) usually has pretty high standards....this one had better reviews and sounded like one of the better ones. In addition, I just read a posting from one of the Dad's that gave a summary of their sailor's PIR.  Being a single mom did not want to venture into places unknown even though I know that the Navy has most likely done some type of review for most of the hotels on the brochure they send in the form letter.   If you do hear from your SC I would be interested in knowing his perspective of BC so far.

Hi, my son is also in  Ship 12, Div 219.  I am going to PIR and booked at the LaQuinta in Bannockburn, IL.  I can't wait to see him I miss him so much!  If you son meets someone from NJ that may be my son.  When he called last week he seemed like he was doing OK - said it was a bit rough but was keeping up.  Next week I believe they go into the gas chamber and fire fighting.  I hope they don't get too sick from the tear gas.  When that week is over it should get easier for them until the end.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes well.

Hey beckina! It's great to have more and more people from 219 on here!

Thank you karianne.  BTY my first name is anna.  I should have thought ahead.  Anyway, I wish I could meet all 84 families (according to my son there are 84 guys in his division) at PIR.  It is so great that we can talk and discuss our thoughts, questions and feelings  - going through the same situation at the same time.
