Do they line up alphabetically in their division?
Got our first letter today!!!! His fiance got hers over a week ago, but it was dated in May before he'd called. Today's letter was very uplifting, he says he was "born to be here" and really "gets it" no matter what they throw at him. Like most Boot Camp experiences he says the language is pretty rough, but since he knows why they do it he considers a lot of it humorous. He has nothing but great things to say about the guys in the Division and is thankful they're all working so well together. Two more weeks and we'll get to see him!! We can't wait to meet some of you, we'll be wearing our black PIR ribbons that we just got today!
sday, I am sorry to hear he is having a hard time being away from you. Its hard for moms, but its different for wives and gfs. Our boys grow up and become men and that is hard for us to get used to, but for someone who has plans for the future together this can be hard. In 2 weeks you will be able to discuss options and offer encouragement, especially if this has been his dream. You will be able to talk every night and maybe he will feel better about his choice or maybe not. This is a tough life for relationships, but as long as he stays focused and has you to support him, then it is possible. His alternative choices are better sooner than later.
sday, when I went through Boot Camp I went through a tough period of adjustment like your boyfriend because my emotional support system--my fiance and family--weren't around me every day like I was used to. But some military jobs require those months of reduced contact and it's necessary, and more importantly possible, to adjust your lives around it. In the long term, families can be brought closer together by supporting these fine young men in their critically important jobs. Love, encouragement and intense pride are the greatest gifts anyone can give these men. And don't forget, Navy families don't just support their Sailors, they support each other. You and your boyfriend will have the largest extended family you could ever imagine. We're proud of your SR, but we're proud of you for supporting him, too.
I am really enjoying all of the messages and info! 2 weeks from today!!!! So excited to see our young men marching in! I rented a car at the airport(taking the easy way)...there are enough unknowns for me, I had to do what was easy. My son's girl heard we should get to grad at 6am?? Anyone else going that early?
My son is really enjoying it, but ready for the next step and yes, he says it is really strange being secluded from the outside world and it has only been 5 weeks! My nephew just went to Marine bootcamp and it was 12 weeks, no calls or anything. I have received 5 letters from my son but didn't get the call on the 6th, his gf and dad got to talk to him though! He is a writing fool! He ran out of envelopes and Navy paper already!
Looking forward to meeting you all...see you the 5th!
I just realized, after rereading my sons letter for the tenth time, that he said he'd been promoted and signed the letter SA, not SR. So our guys become Seaman Apprentice in Boot Camp? I was in during the Cold War and nobody got past E1 until graduation, so this is new to me. And by the way, my son says his best bud is a guy who is multilingual, and sings Russian prison songs when they do laundry. That's hilarious!
My husband just called & said he missed a call from our son...maybe today is another day for phone calls?? He said he was going to try to call me in his message he left so fingers crossed my phone rings in a few minutes!
We just got a call! In his letter yesterday we were told to expect a call today. Their DIV did so good in their tests and inspections this last week that they were given another call. So good to hear his voice. All is well, he is just ready to get on to the next phase. A big BRAVO ZULU to all your SR's that made this possible. It sure made my day.
NavyDadBill: All SRs are treated as E-1s during bootcamp as far as pay goes. But they will get retro-pay after bootcamp based on when they were promoted, from what I understood. My son went in as an E-3...but still was E-1 pay during bootcamp, with retroactive pay later.
