While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

What do the SRs *really* want to do on liberty after PIR?
It seems to me what will be most desired is
1. Sleep
2. Shower
3. Food
4. Sleep
5. Texting
6. Facebook
7. Sleep
Would the best thing we can do be to get a room with a comfy bed, room service, and wifi? Or are they so used to no sleep that it's no longer a priority? He's not 21 so going to a bar is a no-go, and he has no gf/wife so certain *other* activities are not something we need to worry about on this trip. :)

To be really honest they just want to spend time with you, especially if they are single. My son was a little bit different. His 1st priority was buying himself and his girlfriend new cell phones, and his 2nd priority was proposing to his gf in the backseat of my SUV!!! The 2nd didn't go over very well and well...you can add the ending yourself.
Even if he was 21 or over he cannot be drinking or in a bar. They have to remain in FULL dress uniform when in public. He can change into comfy civi clothes if he stays inside your hotel room. Even if there is a pool at the hotel, he has to wear his suit from bootcamp. These rules are drilled into their heads...along with the yes mam, no sir's. :-)
The only way to truly know what YOUR SR wants to do, eat, sleep etc...is to ask THEM. You are most likely only going to have about 7 hours with then after PIR. Then they have to be back at RTC in their racks at a certain time, they know the time. Enjoy the time you have and don't try to do to much.

Your welcome. I'm glad you saw through the post from Craig...he's a GREAT guy and full of information. But he will post some zingers when someone asks a "loaded" question!
Once again my best advice is to follow the lead of your Sailor. I'm sure he will be starved...what late teen/early adult isn't always starved? Enjoy the time you have, and if
he flies out the Sat. after PIR you can meet him at the airport. That's what we did. You will need proper ID and get a guest pass...the airlines are very well versed in this. They (and the people with him) don't have to wait through the security lines either, as long as they are in uniforn and have their next duty station orders, a nice bonus.

Oh Craig....your so cute! For my Seabee this was a tough "act" to pull off, as both mom AND grandma had all 8 eight eyes on the two. Now that most of the newbies leave RTC in the middle of the night, something had to be cut from the program. My son is married now, they got married right after he came home from A school. Your plan works just fine for me NOW.

As a wife i have thought of it alot.

the fact i'm staying at my sister in laws might

Good for you regarding no concern "other" activities! I would agree with your list in that order! Our sailor has a girlfriend so we will likely just have break/lunch together as a family after PIR and maybe not see them for the rest of the day. Who know's?..

I am 40 years old and I do not think I have ever had to process so much information. I guess it is only a fraction of info our sons and daughters are processing. Thank u so much for all this info it is wonderful.

I would agree completely with this post. My son is graduating PIR 8-17-12 and I am very emotional about everything. I want it all to go well and cannot wait to see him. I am trying to plan hotels, flights, etc. He is doing A-school in Great Lakes, so we can hang out all 3 days I think. It is my understanding he will have to be back each night though. Not sure if I should book a 5pm or 10 pm flight home Sunday.

Depending on your obligations once your home (work, other kids etc...) I would suggest booking the 10pm flight. If you book the 5pm flight, you will need to be at the airport around 2-3pm. This way you are able to spend this time with your son. Have fun and enjoy every minute of PIR and the time you do have with your son.
We stayed at Springhill Suites in Lincolnshire. VERY nice hotel with 2 bedrooms, 2 FULL bathrooms, small kitchen, and a fold out couch. FULL FREE breakfast every morning, they serve dinner Mon-Thurs, but I don't know if it's free. Lincolnshire is about 15 minutes from RTC and is all freeway. Easy to get back and forth. Take lots of change of different denominations for the many tolls and weird prices!!
