My son leaves home on June 27 and will stay the night at MEPS. He will swear in and leave for Great Lakes on June 28. I considered going to Louisville for the swearing in but have decided against it. I would rather say my good-byes from the comfort of home and not have to try and drive 3 hours back home from Louisville through the tears. Plus, once he leaves home, I want him to be able to focus on the task ahead of him, not worry about me traveling or will he be able to see me or speak to me Thursday at swearing in. He is our only child. What will we do? Sigh!

Our MEPS is far from home as well. I have to drop him off at the recruiter tomorrow morning at 10. I kept thinking how am I going to drive the 1/2 hour home with the tears. I am dragging a friend along to drive instead. lol. I love the idea of allowing them to focus on the task ahead of them. Thanks for those encouraging words! Welcome to the board and I will keep you in my thoughts on the 27th.

My son is leaving from Wyoming tomorrow. We are taking him to meet his recruiter tomorrow then they will take him to Denver to MEPS and off he goes to Great Lakes on Tuesday. I was lucky enough to go with him in September to see him swearing in. I didn't think I wanted to handle a 7 hr. drive home after putting him on a plane, so I'll tell him See ya tomorrow.

I too find myself crying at the drop of a hat. I was doing well until about a week ago, then it got rough. We had a going away BBQ today. His big sister broke down and then it was all over for me. He is pretty close to his sister and her two kids so that is hard for him too. I have had a couple of times I had to get in the car with the stereo up and drive for a bit so he doesn't see me break down. I a glad to see I am not the only one having trouble letting go of her "baby". I have a younger daughter also, and am worried about how she is going to handle it also, so far she has been very very quiet, which is unusual for a 15 yr. old. She isn't even sure she wants to go take him to the recruiter tomorrow. Wow, it has been an emotional month, he graduated from High School May 26th and leaves for the Navy June 26th. I am so proud of all our young men and women.

I will miss all his friends trooping in and out of the house. The wild laughter coming from his room as they play video games or as they think of crazy things to doT
Thank you to all on here offering support, my prayers are with all of you and your kids.

My daughter & your son will be shipmates.  Brie just graduated HS too.  I'm so proud of her and I'm actually holding up very well.  Her MEPS was too far away, so I didnt get to see her off, had to say goodbye at recruitment ctr.  Holding up really good.  no tears yet and already been 10 days!  I thought I would fall apart as I'm a single mom and we have been attached at the hip since conception!  LOL

What ship and division is Brie? My son is Ship 9 Div 268.

Today's the day I take my son to the hotel.  I know I'm not in this alone as I am meeting so many other Moms that are in the same boat I am in!  Think of you all today as I know we are going to this together!! Hugs!

Getting all these responses sent to my phone email .. My heart feels all the emotion ... So even tho I type bad and on phone it's worse I'm responding from it!!... I woke up this morning wanting to run into room and say don't go !.. Last night at family dinner I wanted my daughter to beg him not to go . I know he needs to do this .. Try on his own .. Needs to grow and learn several things .. But knowing this is last day with him ,, not seeing him or talking for awhile .. Well it's freaking me out !.. People around me want him to go and grow and most are tired of me saying how much I'll miss him etc .. Strength in God and in you ladies who understand .. I look forward to continuing to read how you all are doing and I hope my son makes it through bootcamp because there is no plan B.

Prayers to you and your son.  My son, Brandon left on 6\20.  Keep reading all the posts on this site.  They will bring you a great deal of comfort.  My thoughts will be with you tomorrow! Lea Anne

Ethansmom my prayers are with you! I left my son this morning and and WOW, I actually made it to the car before I broke down. I was glad that I didn't send him off worrying about me crying. He is going to MEPS in the morning then flies out in the afternoon. He has called me twice already, kinda weird for him too, I just keep things light and positive. I agree, thank God for this web sight I chatted with several ladies last night that are sending their boys off today, we all had the same emotions and that really helped. I will keep all our sons and their families in our prayers.
My son leaves from MO on the 28th. He's asked that I not go to swearing in or the airport, I'm sad, but I know it'll be easier on both of us. I have to say my goodbyes on the 27th, so tomorrow is my last day with him. My heart is breaking, but it's his life now and it's my job to be proud of him and let him go-even though it's the hardest job I'll ever have, I'll try my best. So glad to know I'm not alone!

The recruiter will be here any minute..wow..its really here....I am driving down to MEPS in couple hours ..then hes off to the airport ..the hour drive home to a empty house will not be pleasant...so the journey begins!!

Hey Ethansmom,  I was crying alot almost all day yesterday since my son left yesterday for MEPS and recently he texted me to tell me that he is in airplane now and will arrive Great Lakes, Ill soon I felt little better than yesterday.Do you have facebook then email me for your facebook name so we can support each other until we will see our babies on their boot camp graduation. I started new project by paitning our office room as fresh paint then after that will do remove wallpaper off from bathroom then paint nice color etc... to keep my mind busy after I come home from work.  We can make through it together.  Hugs to u from me Kathy
