My son leaves home on June 27 and will stay the night at MEPS. He will swear in and leave for Great Lakes on June 28. I considered going to Louisville for the swearing in but have decided against it. I would rather say my good-byes from the comfort of home and not have to try and drive 3 hours back home from Louisville through the tears. Plus, once he leaves home, I want him to be able to focus on the task ahead of him, not worry about me traveling or will he be able to see me or speak to me Thursday at swearing in. He is our only child. What will we do? Sigh!
Our MEPS is far from home as well. I have to drop him off at the recruiter tomorrow morning at 10. I kept thinking how am I going to drive the 1/2 hour home with the tears. I am dragging a friend along to drive instead. lol. I love the idea of allowing them to focus on the task ahead of them. Thanks for those encouraging words! Welcome to the board and I will keep you in my thoughts on the 27th.
My daughter & your son will be shipmates. Brie just graduated HS too. I'm so proud of her and I'm actually holding up very well. Her MEPS was too far away, so I didnt get to see her off, had to say goodbye at recruitment ctr. Holding up really good. no tears yet and already been 10 days! I thought I would fall apart as I'm a single mom and we have been attached at the hip since conception! LOL
What ship and division is Brie? My son is Ship 9 Div 268.
Today's the day I take my son to the hotel. I know I'm not in this alone as I am meeting so many other Moms that are in the same boat I am in! Think of you all today as I know we are going to this together!! Hugs!
Prayers to you and your son. My son, Brandon left on 6\20. Keep reading all the posts on this site. They will bring you a great deal of comfort. My thoughts will be with you tomorrow! Lea Anne
The recruiter will be here any minute..wow..its really here....I am driving down to MEPS in couple hours ..then hes off to the airport ..the hour drive home to a empty house will not be pleasant...so the journey begins!!
