For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Graduation Gift Ideas?
So trying to come up with a great graduation gift for my boyfriend as he graduates from bootcamp!
I have already purchased a religious medallion but was thinking about a laptop too. He does not own a laptop and I assume they would need one for A school. I wanted to give him something that he could really use and I know he would be thrilled to get a laptop. Does anyone know if they receive laptops at A school or even need one at A school. Or if they can even take there own laptops. Any other great graduation gift ideas??

My first question would be, which A School is he going to?
We took our son's laptop with us to PIR and gave it to him the next day. In Great Lakes there was a building he could go to to get online, or they can get hooked up while there, or possibly someone has wireless.
Keep in mind they have limited space to carry all their stuff, and they already have a lot of stuff to carry.
You sounds like a very generous girlfriend.

I agree with Concernedad. Limited space is an issue, as is the potential for the laptop to be stolen. Yes, even in the Military items are stolen. Maybe the laptop could be a gift once he's done with A school?
BTW...You are very generous indeed. He's a lucky guy!

They do not use a laptop with any of their A schools. Much of what many rates do is classified and not allowed online. If they use a computer to study it is done at school, with Navy approved programs. Self study is done with authorized hard copy study guides. He should avoid study guides from other students, if they have test answers specifically, he could get busted through no fault of his own.
Laptops are primarily for entertainment and communication (skype). They must buy a cable service to use them in the barracks, not always possible. There are wifi hotspots on base, but few are convenient given their school hours.
However, many sailors are geeky about their tech, so will want to choose their own. The NEX has good ones, with no sales tax. Perhaps an IOU for the laptop, and you two can pick it out together?
Very generous, indeed. Again, not needed for school, and yeah, lots of theft. Consider a lo-jack style security system if you do decide to buy one for him.

Just an FYI. My recruit said the first two weeks they are not allowed any electronics.

At Great Lakes they couldn't have any electronics for the first couple weeks.
