Coffee anyone?

AuroraA, the unique coffee shops are unfortunately not near Great Lakes.  The top rated Coffee in Chicago is Metropolis.  Their shop is near Loyola University on Granville.  Another good one is Lavazza--coffee from Italy.  There are 3 locations in the downtown area. I have been to the shop at 27 W. Washington.  There is also one at the John Hancock Observatory.  Actually, there is a wonderful European style market called "The French Market" adjacent to Ogilvie Transportation Center. That is where you would get off the Metra if going downtown.  I believe the stairs around tracks 6 or 8 lead right down to the market.  There is a Lavazza there and they have the coffee bar designed just like the ones in Italy.  Another great place is L'Appetito at the Hancock Center (825 N. Michigan Ave).  It is a great little Italian cafe.  The old run of the mill Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts are near GL.

Then, of course, Chicago is famous for pizza.  You cannot go wrong with Gino's East or Pizzaria Uno or Due for authentic deep dish pizza.  Giordano's is very good, too.  Oh, I could go on and on...so much good food in Chicago.  Bubba Gump's at Navy Pier is awesome.  The Asian Nachos (yes, you read that right!) are amazing at Grand Lux.  That is another unique place....good food and prices are pretty good.

This is my last pitch...I promise.  I must tell everyone about one of the best places for ribs.  It is a little hole in the wall tavern/restaurant called "Twin Anchors." It is one of the oldest restaurants in Chicago, dating back to 1932.   If you have seen the movie "Return to Me," then you have seen Twin Anchors. Remember when Minnie Driver pours the bottled water down the sink and fills the bottle with tap water?   When Frank Sinatra would come to Chicago, he would order ribs for his orchestra from there.  It is at 1655 N. Sedgewick (Old Town). www.twinanchorsribs.com

Sorry for rambling...I get carried away sometimes.  Let me know if you have any other questions!

The day is very near!!

My t-shirts arrived in the mail today!

So exciting:-)

I just got my division shirts. I love the design! Now my husband wants a sweatshirt. Only one week and we get to see our loved ones. My son wrote when battle stations is. He also said everyone in the division was excited for the gas chamber (hahaha) and that it was a cool experience. This is it. I'm sealing my son's last letter and taking it to the post office. I'm beyond excited and can't wait to see him. :D
hi.. When I talked to my son on the 4th he said not to mail any more letters... Im sure if you mail one today he will get it before they move to pre buds...
Moms!!! More pictures of our boys are on Facebook. I'm not sure if anyone has noticed or announced them yet. I'm too lazy to look back on all the posts from today. It's on this page: Naval Service Training Command. It shows our guys during fire fighting and the "Confidence Chamber". It doesn't say it's division 816 but I'd bet money that's half of my SR's body!!!

Thanks a bunch!  In the descriptions off to the side it says Div 816, and even says the SR name and age on several!!

Thanks Momof3 for letting us know about the pictures.  I love seeing the guys my son is hanging with!  Any idea when 816 is doing battle stations?  Please private message me if you have an idea!

Even though it has been over 100 degrees here the past week and my air conditioning is running constantly, I am lighting my blue candle for our division.  Praying that all make it!

Have a wonderful day!

Fancy Nancy, that's a great idea, lighting a blue candle. I will look for one today. My husband and I have purchased a U.S. Navy flag and plan on flying it when we learn that our son is officially a sailor. We are so excited. I have sent you a message. I hope it worked. It said I had to request you as a friend first. When I requested, it gave the option of sending a message with the request. That is what I did. I wish I could be a spectator for Captain's Cup!!! Go 816!!!! Divisions 814 & 815 won their Captain's Cup so the guys have high expectations. :)

this will tell you all about it. they probably held it this morning before it got too hot.

Thanks so much for the link!  My son had been looking forward to this for weeks!  He had heard about it!  I would have love to been a spectator as well.  If I was in charge of RTC I would schedule the Captains Cup for the day before graduation and give parents the opportunity to come watch if you want to!  How fun would that be to see all the recruits play!

Thanks Momof3 I saw my son in one of them!!!!!!!

Sorry, I meant to get back to you sooner.. I have netflix so I will check out the show..thanks...Wonder how they did in the Captains Cup...
