For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My son is at the hotel right now. We will go see him take his Oath in the morning and spend a bit more time with him before he leaves.

I told my SR before we went to MEPS that on the navydep.com site a recruit said to send a note in your pocket for your parents. I told him I wanted one (of course I didn't expect one, I didn't think he would have time to write one). Anyway, while we were at MEPS waiting he pulls out a letter for us and his girlfriend that he had written the night before at the hotel. I didn't read it until I got home-knew I would lose it- and boy did the tears fall then. Its one thing to know your kids love you but it's another to see them write it in their own words. I've gotten that letter out many times since last Tuesday. Here's to hoping that everyone gets a quick note from their SR in "the box" and that the form letter arrives quickly too.

What a great gift that must be...to have that to look to when you're waiting on the next step!!
All I have is a text from a number I didn't recognize, with the message that he'd gotten to Chicago and was ok...and that he loved me.I'm still waiting on that darn box and letter...and his recruiter (new at his job) had no idea he could get that info ....he's going to check for me when he gets back to the office.

I just got off the phone with the Chief that is in my SR's recruitment office. He said that he could not give me his address over the phone and I need to come to the office and get it.
For some weird reason, I'm nervous about doing this. I think that it is just another confirmation that my boy really is gone and life will never be the same for him or the rest of our family.
It has been a week or almost a week since we last saw our SRs. How is everyone doing?
I'm feeling some of the same emotions that I did this time last week. Really not sure why.

I called my son's recruiter this morning (tried last Friday but the line was busy) but he couldn't give me any info. He asked me to call back later today or in the morning. However, I saw one post where the SR left on 7/2 and she received the form letter so here's hoping we get both the box and the letter soon.

I got my SR's box today. There was no form or letter in it :(. I am a bit disappointed to say the least. But I also know how tired and scared his was. I've gone through it, every nook and cranny. I cried when I saw it on the front porch when my daughter and I arrived back from the recruitment office. It was like the final blow that our lives have truly changed forever.
Now, I'm off to figure out why his phone will not work and it is not recognizing the SIM card.
I've made it through this hurdle, gotten his ship/division number (12/272), had a nice conversation with the Chief regarding my SR (that made me fee much better), found out that our SRs do not even have to go outside to eat...in the hot temps of last week, they were inside where it was nice and cool, and now I wait for the form letter letting me of my SR's official PIR date. Those that left on 7/2 start their first official day of boot camp today.
Picking up my big girl panties and continuing on with life.

My son left on July 3. I am still waiting on the box. I too hope to find a letter or something from my son (besides his dirty clothes). This has got to be one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. When I sent him to college, I knew that he was just a phone call away or I could get in my car and see him in about 3 hours. But now, this is a waiting game....waiting on the box, waiting on the letter, waiting on the phone call...waiting on graduation. His 9 year old sister is having a very hard time dealing with all of this. She has been his shadow since he graduated from college in December.
I don't have his address yet. But I am writing to him everyday. Just letting him know what is going on at home and I try to send words of encouragement. I keep telling myself that this was my son's decision, he wasn't forced to go but I didn't try to discourage him. I knew if I did try to discourage him, he would have done it anyway and there was no reason for him to leave with "hurt feelings" between us. I know the Navy will be good for him, but I don't know about how good it is for me.
This site is wonderful. It makes me feel as if I am not alone and lets me know that all of my feelings are normal. Someone that hasn't been through this just doesn't understand. Words can not express the void that you have when you have to tell them good-bye.

Hi mom38024. I feel the same way. I sent my oldest off 3 years ago to college and he is there when I call or text him. The waiting game is torture. I knew this day was coming once he signed up for the Navy last June but once July rolled around I wasn't near as prepared as I wished I was. :(

My daughter also left on July 3rd and I haven't gotten the box either and we only live 2.5hrs from Great Lakes. I am going to call her recruiter today and hopefully he will have her address. This waiting is killing me....I am so anxious to send off all these letters I wrote her. I also have a 9year old daughter and she is missing her older sister like crazy. She is writting her everyday and drawing her cute pictures. I am sure she would love to get the pictures her little sister has drawn for her but I hope she doesn't have to do a lot of push-ups because of them.

Mail came and went...and no letter, no box. I've texted and called the recruiter, but no word there either...big sigh.
I have tried to keep busy here, cleaning, laundry, cooking, balancing my checkbook, getting things cleaned off my desk...but it's not working. I may soon have to resort to my 2 best friends in hard times: Ben and Jerry!!!
Am thinking that since I have to run to the bank anyway...might as well go to the grocery store too...although I'm trying to NOT do bad things now that I have no excuse to have junk food in the house. I wonder if they make a brown rice and broccoli flavor??UGh!!!
