Joanie, my daughter told me the same thing, said their division is not where they should be and its very frustrating! She said she honestly does not know how some made it into the Navy. But besides that, she said other than being homesick its really not that bad. Also passed her swim test. After I got off the phone I felt such a sense of relief. She sounded adjusted, confident and proud! Well kudos to your daughter for having such a positive attitude! Aug. 17 cant get here soon enough for me!!

I got my 2nd call today and another letter too.  My daughter said she could only talk for 5 minutes because the group did not pass something.  Because of this the group was punished and lost some of their calling time.  This really sucks!  My daughter was very upset about this. She did tell me that she pass her 1st written test and over all is doing okay.  However she sounded sad and started to cry before she hung up.  She said that she missed me and being home.  I told her to be strong and that I loved her very much.  ] I got off the phone and started to cry.  I wish I could just hug her and comfort her as I know she is homesick.  She hates the fact that she cannot call whenever she wants to.  Not being able to talk on the phone is very difficult for both of us.  Please pray for us.  Thank you all for your support.

Mine called today also for 5 minutes and spoke with her dad.  I'm so sorry about her being sad!  I know this has to be heart wrenching.  But just remember, she is doing what she wants to do and will come out stronger then ever before because of what she is doing.  That's what I'm trying to hold on to.  I will be thinking of you!  My daughter was not feeling well, hadn't been for a few days but was fighting her way through it, so that was hard too.  I can't put her to bed and give her meds....But she is tough and I know she will be fine!

When I spoke w/my daughter last Sunday she said her bunkmate has been sick. Yours doesnt happen to have bronchitis does she? Taylor said she felt like she was starting to get sick. Hope not!

She said she had been fighting through it and was starting to feel a bit better, She had not been to medical in fear of being set back, she is a tough lil gal lol.  So I'm assuming it's not her with bronchitis. I sure hope it isn't!!!  I'm assuming some allergies have kicked in from changing states and air and so forth.  But with so many people packed in together it's probably very easy and common to get sick.  I sure hope your Taylor doesn't catch it!!! I asked in my letter I sent off the other day if she knew your daughter, so hopefully I will know soon.

Does anyone know when they do the gas chamber? That part scares me, can't help it!

Not sure but Taylor told me some have not had to do it due to the heat. Hope our's don't!!

Oh i'm sure they will have to do it at some point. I dont think they will just let them out of it.  I dread it so much for them.

You are probably right unfortunately. My son has talked about being a Marine since he was 7, he's 15 now and he is obsessed and watches Marine shows on the Military channel all the time. Thats where I saw an episode of them doing the gas chamber! Not pleasant!! I have been so nervous about her having to do that! I think I worry about it more than she does!

Week 6. During the sixth week, you'll get your Division photos taken (you can buy these at Graduation, as well as "year books" at Graduation!). Of course, there's more drill, as well as more physical training. In between that, you'll receive basic training on damage control and fire fighting (pay close attention here -- this is highly important on a ship!)

You'll also get to visit (Ta-Dum!) the Gas Chamber! (No.....not the kind they have in prisons....this one only makes you cough and puke). You'll want to eat light on Gas Chamber day (Actually, the Navy Prefers to call it the "Confidence Chamber." You and about 100 other recruits will line up in multiple rows in the Confidence Chamber. You'll have 30 seconds to don your gas mask while the Petty Officer is lighting the tear gas tablet.

Once it's your row's turn, a Petty Officer will instruct you to take off your mask, and remove the filter cartridge, throwing it in a trash can, while stating your full name and social security number. (Interesting side note: This is one of the only times in boot camp that you'll hear everyone's first name -- if you can care about such matters with a lung-full of tear gas). Then when everyone in the row is done you'll be permitted to leave. Once you get outside and finally stop gagging, crying and puking yourself, you get to watch the rows behind you come out and cry, gag, and puke.

Got a letter today :) My daughter says everything is going fine but having a very busy week this week.  The so called "hell week" She said her div earned their first flag.  And that they even got to listen to come music last Sunday.  She so loves her music so I think that made her month!  No word on any upcoming phone calls, but keep that phone glued to you!  Hope all your SR's are well.   11/250

Hi!  I just joined Navy for Moms and my daughter is also ship 11/div 250.  She is one of those who has a cold as well.  Don't believe she has bronchitis though.  I got another letter yesterday which said pretty much the same as your letter.  Division earned scholastic flag and in store for a busy week.  She is doing well, other than being crazy homesick.  She has passed all her tests and has done great on inspections.  Makes me nervous to read some of the posts on those that did not pass due to their running time.  I think she is most nervous about that as well. I recieved an unscheduled call from her last thursday, but her phone card only had 3 minutes left on it so we were cut off.  Make sure your SR's keep their cards loaded. Never know when they might get to call unexpectedly.
