Two weeks from today for us.  I think I'm handling it ok, then I let my mind slip and I tear up.

Hey, everyone.  11 days before she leaves.  Her last day at work was the yesterday.  She and some of the other girls wore purple and pink wigs to celebrate.  I guess that'a t 20-something thing?  She's been cleaning up her room and packing away stuff.  She put some unwanted items on Craig's List.  She will be spending next week going to the lake, Galveston, a Rangers game, and trying to see friends and relatives one last time. And squeezing in time for the gym and the track and the pool.  She had a appointment to cut her hair Thursday, but chickened out.  She's had long hair all her life.  Cutting off 17 inches is a little scary.  Now she is getting it cut the day before she leaves.   But we're doing ok.

Hi sparky, 9 days now for us too.  We've been wrapping up last minute details too.  My daughter also had her last day of work this past week.  We had her party last weekend, now she's just getting around to see friends, etc as well.  I feel for your daughter about her hair, that has been a real problem for my daughter too, but her hair isn't as long as your daughters.  Her appt is this Friday and she'll probably have abount 4 inches cut off.  She thinks I'm crazy, but I'm taking off of work early that day to be there to take pictures for her scrapbook.

She's a bit nervous as the time draws near, but she says she's ready to go.  So that helps, even though I still have that knot in my stomach.  Thinking of all that are going through the same thing every day!!

Hey, girl, glad to hear y'all are doing ok.

I got an answer for lemonelephant (I think she is one of the ones on here with a lot of knowledge about Nany stuff) about hair length.  She said to have a good stylist cut it well above the collar, and that would probably get her through boot camp without needing another cut. My daugher said she would have a friend take pictures of the shearing.  I want them for the scrapbook also.  Plus a lock of that hair.  I think she is donating the rest.

We are trying to get last minute things done.  We're not sure what to do with her car.  The advice I got from other n4m was to wait until after A school to make a decision.

I was told by friend yesterday the gossip columnist of our little local paper will be calling me for news about my daughter joining the Navy. My daughter will be so embarrassed.

The days are going by fast.  All the moms who are ahead of us say to enjoy what time you have left.  OK, I will.

Yes, days are going by way too fast. Party went great on Saturday. Wonderful show of support and encouragement. Had all guests write him notes, which he's read already, and I will send them to him a few at a time after I get his BC address to remind him of the support he has here. (More than just mom and dad.)

Party day got a little emotional for me when the group prayed for him. First time I've allowed tears to fall in front of him. Blamed it on allergies. I do not want to leave him with a memory of a mom who had a hard time with this amazing decision he's made for his future. I am so happy for him!

Hi, rox3  Did you change your picture.?  It's cute.

I'll probably cry.  Hopefully it will only be a tear or two. I'm not sure where we will see her off though.  I think we have to take her to the recruiter's in Tyler and he takes her to Shreveport.

I did change my pic! We had family pictures taken a few weeks ago, intentionally before Josh leaves us, and this was one of the shots the photographer got. There are more pics on my page. I figured out how to load them yesterday.

I love stained glass! You are gonna have to share some of your work with us. I have even looked into getting started, cutting glass and soldering. It looks like something that takes a LOT of practice to get really good at.

One more week till he leaves... so much anticipation. Who am I kidding, I'm gonna be a basket case! HA!

I love doing stained glass.  It's not hard.  But it can get costly as with any hobby.  Watch on Craig's List.  Someone is always selling all their stuff.  I have more glass than I will ever use.

Gbatts,

I finally got the before and after haircut pictures on page.  She got it cut Friday morning.  It was such a dramatic change.  I like it ok.  Everyone wants to feel it.  She said she went from taking 1-1/2 to wash, dry, and straighten her hair and get dressed to 35 minutes.

How did your daughter do?

sparkyjo,

Glad to hear the hair appt went well.  Hopefully your daughter can look at the haircut as a good thing since she was able to donate to someone who will appreciate her thoughtfulness.  Our appt. went well.  I took before and after pictures that I'll post on my page if you wanna check them out. My daughter informed me that in the "before" picture that she definitely wasn't going to be smiling.  But in the after picture not sure if her smile could have been any bigger.  I think it's cute, and she did say yesterday that she thought it turned out ok too.  I'm not very computer saavy, but couldn't find your pictures.  Where are they located?

I'm sure not very computer literate.  I went back to my page to see what I did wrong.  Both the before and after pictures say they are awaiting approval.  So I don't know.

Hey all,

The recruiter just told my daughter she leaving the 24th now instead of the 25th.  That's one less day.  Had to reschedule the hair cutting event to Friday.   Oh, well.
