Just want to connect with moms whose SR arrived July 17, 2012. Haven't heard from him yet, but I'm sure that is just a matter of time. Expecting form letter next week, then we'll have a better idea.

My son left July 17th for MEPS but didnt arrive in great lakes till 18th...no scripted call yet..anxiously waiting...he did however call when plan landed from his cell..
Dad and I were both Army (a thousand years ago), so we had some idea of what goes on. Our son left everything with us except the clothes on his back and his wallet with his driver's license. He is 24and has been away from home for several years at school so I never expected to go through the "empty nest" stuff now! I'm so glad to have this forum for support. Good to "meet" you.
Oh any advice you can pass on would be very welcome. Evan is 17 , my third and last child. Although his brother and sister are on their own it was a completely different experience sending then to college vs Navy . His recruiter tools him to take the cell but expect to have it assent home with clothes. That is why he called right after landing...he knew it would be gone. I did expect my 15 second call, which I didn't get. Little sad on that..when should I expect address?

Hi eli7th1~ My daughter arrived at GL on the 17th. She is 17, as well. Will turn 18 on 13Aug. Too bad about your call, but it is exactly that..15 seconds. You should receive kid in a box anyday (unless you already did), then the form letter maybe later next week, from what I understand...

OOps, I mean later this coming week :)

I seriously think they should have counseling for the families! Our son has not been livig at home for 4 years now and yet when we dropped him off at the motel and he gave us all his stuff (including his car), I cried. He is an only child. If I didn't have a job to keep me busy I'd e going nuts!

Hi my son also is 17 its so hard he is my only child and it is almost unbareble not knowing how he is doing. My son will turn 18 on aug 18th so its sad I will miss not being with him on his 18th.  We will have to stay connected :)

If you haven't gone to this page yet, go there: http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/survival-guide-for-navy-for... . There are some really GREAT videos from the Navy detailing what our kids go through during Boot Camp. I found it very reassuring. One of the "secrets" I will pass on is that I remember after graduating from Army Basic Training (in 1976!), I told my mom I felt like I could do anything I put my mind to. It really does build confidence and help them mature. (It's just so dang hard on those of us left at home!).

*told
Does that mean I wont get my 15 sec call? No box yet, but I dont think I will take that well. Em's mom.. I am not sending birthday card because I heard this would make him stand out and possible repercussions..did you hear the same? So glad this group is here, no one understands me feelimg sad. Just hear :cut the cord, he grew up they do that and other wonderful antidotes that don't help

eli7th1~ I have heard the whole division gets pt if they see any musical, glittery, or colored envelopes. I have also heard that it does not go well if they find out it's an SRs birthday haha! I definitely will not be sending anything that stands out in the mail. I just hope her friends dont either!

Thanks for that tidbit. We are practical jokers at our house and might have done something like that just for fun! I did write in my first letter that those actions were options if he doesn't contact us at some time in some way no matter how briefly!
