Hi all, What time is a good time to arrive for PIR ,I will be in a wheelchair will there be problem with using my own wheelchair? Sorry if this sounds stupid but I am concerned about causing any delays and missing it. I am really about to go into meltdown espeecially after I thought I lost his form letter with all the info.We will be driving from Oklahoma and plan to be there Thursday before.
Yes you can send pictures, but no food something like that, I already got the form letter and I feel so happy that she is doing well.
To all of you that have made it through bootcamp, could you please give me some encouragement? My son left on Monday and I am finding all of this a little more overwhelming than I expected. I am driving myself crazy wondering if he is ok and blaming myself for not logging on to this site before he left because there is so much info that could have prepared him better. He is just out of high school and that was even his first flight. I just miss him and it's only been a few days so please give me some tips to survive all this.
Thank you so much I will check all this out. I am trying to stay busy but it's so hot here in Ga. that it's making it hard..haha. I will hope for no news then because I sure don't want any bad news:)
Hi Amanda-- my daughter graduated BC on 7/13! Just hang in there, the best thing i can tell you is that "no news is good news" its the hardest part, but they are doing what they are supposed to be doing if you havent heard from them...the divisions will be forming and soon you get your form letter telling you graduation date and the address, i had letters and cards ready to go as soon as i found out this address, get them going in the mail. i have another one leaving (this time its our son) on 8/1/12 so its possible that our sons will be in the same graduation or PIR (pass in review) group could even hit the same division?!. I will then have to listen to my own advise! lol you could Face book me and request to become a friend, i will help as much as possible...where are you from, Ohio is where we are from. Tori
Hey Tori, I get lost in the replies on here! I just saw this msg and we are from Atlanta. How do I find you on Facebook? I found out all the graduation info of course but still no letter from my son. This was the end of week three.
Thanks, thats why i used my name and not my childrens or any pictures of them...and my FB page is public. if there is a way to answer questions from someone specifically in a private forum here then that would be great....
I can relate to your story....Alicia, our 18 year old, left home for the first time, had her first airplane ride, and shipped off to boot camp all in the course of 24 hours on July 24. We recieved the "I made it to bootcamp" call last night at about 9:30. Too excited to stop calling out "I love you baby Pooh" into the phone receiver, my husband gestered for me to be quiet so he could hear her talking. The conversation was brief. Having been a bold, outgoing teenage always speaking her mind at home (not rude, just REALLY confident) she immediate told us that her "mouth" had already gotten her into trouble! I reassured her that because she learned this lesson [Be quiet and listen!!!] early, she would adjust and be fine. As for me....now I spend at least 30 or longer on Navy for Moms everyday to connect to moms like me and for the valuable information. The more informed we are, the less anxious we will be. Gosh, I love this website!
lol -- Lindsey said she smiled at a Petty Officer her 2nd day and he told her he would throw her out a window! she has always spoke her mind also, and got through without getting thrown out the window! keep watching for others to get letters, that takes a couple to 3 weeks until you get any back they dont allow them much time to write for the first few weeks just after taps was when our daughter wrote...or on sudays after they get to allow them holiday time from 7-1. she did tell us how much they all looked forward to letter time, the RDC will pass them out in the evenings--but dont send postcards because they will read them out load to everyone, also no food they will get in big trouble for that. there is also a navy moms on FB that you can get in a group with, a little easier to navigate if you are already use to that.
My daughter, Alicia, left for boot camp this morning from Orlando, Fl and I miss her so much already. I wore my tough face when I kissed and hugged her goodbye, but when I sat in my car and watched the shuttle drive away, the river started flowing! I am so grateful to God for the past 18 years of her life and her bright future....the trials and the joys, the laughter and the growing pains - we count it all a blessing. Her father and I are confident that she will make all of us proud and be an outstanding sailor! (Now I need a box of Krispy Kreme donuts to comfort me!!!)
hello hightowerhayes, i couldnt agree more it is a very proud feeling and bittersweet at the same time! i am willing to help where i can just see the reply above and remember no news is good news they are right on track! Tori
