I keep seeing running lists of dates that kids are leaving and I really wanted to connect with other people whose kids are leaving at the same time my son is.  So, if you have a child leaving either August 1st or 2nd, post here and let's keep each other up todate on progress.

Thanks,

Carol

Hi my second son will be leaving on the 31st, with his swearing in on the 1st of Aug and then he fly's out from Seattle area to Great Lakes,

Since this is my second son going in, I will say that this web site helped me a lot with my first son. I thought I would be ready for this but.... Here I go again.

Hi Carol, My son is has to report to MEPS  in Chandler, AZ Wed Aug 1st at 4pm where he is being put up in a hotel next to the MEPS in Phx, where he will report at 5am on Aug 2nd for a mini physical and then his swearing in at 9 am. We are allowed to attend the swearing in, but I was told we would not be able to go to the airport with him? Heck, I am not even sure what time they go to the airport. Not a lot of info has come my way. My son is very laid back and doesn't ask a lot of questions, unlike me. I still have so many more unanswered questions and hope to get answers on this site.

Carol,

Check with your recruiter.. we are attending the swearing in and then going to the airport.( Meeting him there, he has to go on the bus) The airport will give you a fake boarding pass, you will still have to go through security, and then you can go back through the gate. This is a courtesy the airports allow family members of Military.... So check in to it.

Checking in to see how everyone is doing. My SR has a birthday today, then off to GL on Wednesday. I am not sure how I will do when he leaves yet. I've been preparing my self since November, so I hope to be able to keep it together. I am not sleeping well and have been pretty exhausted for days. I am hoping to get a good night sleep soon!

Hi Shanna,

My SR leaves tomorrow morning for GL.....and I wish I could say I was doing well. I'M A MESS!! I thought it would be easier having sent my oldest out of State to college 2 years ago... No.. It isn't helping that I can see that he is a bit nervous, I have never seen him nervous!! How can you be so proud and excited for someone and scared and sad at the same time? LOL... good luck to you and your SR.. I'll be thinking of you.

Thinking of you all too! Mine says he is ready to go, he has had 9 mos to get mentally prepared. I am SO out of it! I signed up for a rewards program at the granary, they asked me my name and I had to think about what it was for a few seconds!! I am so glad I saved vacation and took this week off. I am sure I would have used up every tissue in the building if I hadn't, and that i would be making mistakes like crazy. Check in with us after he leaves ok? And feel free to send me a PM and I'll check in when I can.

Hello ladies,

My son leaves tomorrow at 5 AM from Phoenix for GL.  Our family is having dinner together tonight...his choice.  He hasn't even decided where yet! He doesn't seem nervous at all, I think after all the waiting, he's ready to go.  I think having him feel more confident in his decision is making this whole process a lot easier for me.  Hang in there!

Good luck to you and your SR. My son has chosen "Melting Pot" in Scottsdale as his last supper choice. LOL!

My daughter leaves on August 1.   I just dropped her off an hour ago at our local recruiters' office and they're headed to St. Louis right now and should leave there tomorrow morning for Great Lakes.    Can't wait to get her phone call to know she made it and is safe.    My son enlisted in the Navy 2 years ago, but had to leave bootcamp for medical issues.   So at least I have a small idea of what will happen in the next few days.      I

My son left from St. Louis on the 1st! Got his call that evening around 7:30 pm, sounded very scripted. Did yours?

My son sounded scripted also. But was great to know he was ok. Miss him dearly cant wait for graduation. My son left August 1st also

How is everybody holding up??? I'm doing ok... drop my son off tomorrow at the recruiters at 3 pm then we get to have him from 4-8 for his last supper lol. Then back to the hotel by 8:30 pm. Final swearing in at 8:30 am Thursday then flying to GL from Sacramento international. Just called the airport to verify that we can get the military passes to go through security with him and yep all good! Thank goodness! I think I would go nuts if I couldn't give him that last big hug goodbye! Lol
Good luck to all of our previous son's and daughters :)
