Hello Moms,

My son Kyle leaves at 10:00am today for BC and I am very proud of him.  I had a few tears fall last night when I went to bed after a wonderful dinner and movie night with the whole family.  Kyle's dad came up and even joined us and that I was super happy with.  I know he is ready to become the best sailor he can be and more.........

I am still going to need support for I will miss him a ton....

Your not alone. There are a couple of other Mom's including myself whose children left/will be leaving today. I'm thinking that I might have to take it hour by hour at first. Let's do our best to stay strong and I think keeping busy might be the key. Best wishes!

I know I am not alone in this :)   This wonderful site and all you other moms have helped already....As I am so proud of my son and know this is his career not just lets see if I like it/I did not know what else to do with myself....he has wanted this all the way back to like 6th grade....never changed his mind....

It was just very hard to hold in the tears when they came and picked him up today at the house....tears of joy and OMG I am going to miss him...he was and always will be my rock...

Best of luck to you and your family....our kids are making us proud moms...hope to chat soon...

My son Brandon left Wednesday...so bittersweet! When I got my phone call Wednesday night it took my breath away! I am glad school is getting ready to start. I spent the day Wed. pampering myself...it kind of kept my mind off my son. I think the best thing any of us moms can do is keep busy and continue on with our routines. Glad your final night with Kyle turned out good!

Hello,

Wow you got your call Wed Night....My ex husband got the call from Kyle, then called me about 9am today...I was kind of pissed off at first to be honest here, then I thought about it and I think it might have been easier on Kyle to call his dad...no emotions there...lol...it still would have been nice to hear his voice.

I took the summer off of school myself and I start back on the 27th of this month, but I have homework due on the 25th...so yes it will keep me busy too....hope to chat soon...

I had no idea how hard it would be to say good bye. I went to MEPS yesterday to watch him swear in and spend a few hours with him before he left. I'm a wreck. I can't stop crying. I feel so silly for feeling this way but it's so hard. I'm trying to think positive thoughts but the tears keep coming. Please tell me this gets easier.

Mine left yesterday as well. I was able to keep the tears at bay while with him, but as soon as we got inthe car the flood gates opened. I got over i,t but when he called at about 1130 he sounded so tired and stressed i started crying again... And it just starts out of nowhere!!! I know it will get easier but my heart aches so very much!!!

Mine left from okc and will be going to A school in Great Lakes as well...

@ navy momma, what day did your son leave OKC? My son flew out yesterday afternoon from OKC. We live in Edmond, Okla. He called me at the airport at about 2 p.m. and that's the last I've heard from him. I'm not sure why, but I didn't get the "I'm here" call. I'm sure he's there and fine, but I sure would have liked to have heard from him even if only for a few seconds. When I spoke with him at 2, he said there were 9 of them flying out together.

he left 8/2

there was a large group of them all going together. The Navy person at MEPS advised us they would probably all be together durring BC but then split up depending on which A school they go to..

Karen ,

I am right there with you, Kyle lived with his dad to finish high school when we got divorced.  Kyle moved in with my new husband and I right after graduation in May...so even though I did not see him everyday for the last 5 years, this is so different for me...Kyle would just call and say hi mom ....and now I do not know when he will call and I can not call him...I think it will get better...we just need to stay strong just like they have to...

talk soon,

Kyle's Mom

My son left for BC on Aug 1 from Indpls, his A school is in GL also...glad it's not that far from home but it seems like he is a world away from us!! I keep reading everyones replies & its like therapy to know so many know exactly what you're going through.  I'm trying to talk Dad into joining too, he is having a really rough time, but too tough to admit it I think.

My son left on Aug. 1st from Indianapolis as well.  Did he by chance leave from the Ft. Harrison location?  If so our sons were probably on the same van ride there... and you were probably sharing tears with me that day

What all of you are experiencing is all very normal for a new mom of an SR that left for BC. It is a long trip for all of them from the time they leave home, stay overnight at a hotel (for some), MEPS and then the flight to GL and then they wait for a bunch to get to Chicago and they bring them to the USO. Sometimes they get something to eat but from that point they take the bus to GL and it starts right in for all of them. They usually keep them up for a couple of days without sleep. They totally strip them from civilian life and begin the life as a navy sailor. Not easy for them but you have to write them often and give them words of encouragement. Anyone that can write tell them please write. That is the only time they are in touch with the outside world. If they are interested in sports tell them what is going on or any other favorite thing they liked or loved before they left for GL. They love getting mail and keeps them fueled for all they have to go through. BC is not easy but they get PT'd, go to classes and they have to study hard to pass rests. You don't want to tell them anything that will worry them in your letters. Keep your letters happy and encouraging. They have enough to worry about and don't need added stress in BC. They usually have Sunday mornings to themselves to do what they want. Some go to church even mine did even though he hardly ever went at home. LOL My husband said sure its got a/c and the man behind the altar isn't in his face yelling at him. I wish you and your SR a speedy BC and the time goes faster than you think. The first weeks waiting to hear from them for the first time is the longest. After that the letters come flooding in. My son was not a writer but wrote us often and said to us keep the letters coming because that is whats keeping me going. My son thanked us over and over again in his letters preparing him for his adulthood and now understands our reason behind why we insisted and encouraged him to do his best and to keep your mouth shut because you can't get in trouble for not talking.
