Has anyone received an actual letter from their sailor yet?? I'm very anxious to hear from him. I'm also worried. He expressed sadness on his form letter home with his PIR information and I've been a wreck since. I've read that the first couple weeks are hardest for them. Is that true?? Is there a limit to the amount of letters I can send him? I heard that they get singled out if they're getting too much mail and I don't want to make anything harder for him. Thanks!!!

So happy for you! I just kept re- reading our letter all weekend. It's amazing what peace of mind comes in that small package. Ours too said he was in jail, bit wait, even prisoners get to read!.....lol. I had to laugh double- hard because it reminded me of the letters I wrote my mom when I went through Army basic.......lol I just try to tell him encouraging things, like every day gone is one day closer to graduation. Like I know you can do it, the object is survival, not perfection!

Thanks - mikey's mom-  hope no-one takes offense about the 18th yrs. old remark--i think he meant that SOME of the 18 yr olds like to goof off.....

LOL Kimbo...We know none of them are OUR kids! ;)

Ok I was going to let everyone know that I recieved two letters from my son yesterday finally!! Has anyone else recieved theirs now? He said they are getting brutalized with pt but that they are doing well and that he has made alot of good friends. He said it is rough and just like the boot camps you see on TV hahaha leave it to him to compare it to the movies! He knows me too well because he said momma you better not be crying...well I was before I even opened the envelope!!

So happy you got your letters! I've just about read the ink off my letter. Did anyone else suspect how sweet our sons can be? Amanda261, what ship/div is he in? Savor that feeling. I think I floated for days!

He is Ship 14 div 289..and yes I have read it over and over haha!

My son's girlfiend, LoveMySailor, just got three letters in the mail! She texted me. She's going to read them now and text if he's ok (I just want to know that he's ok!!!). I cannot wait to check my mail after work now!!! He's Ship 2 Division 244 so stuff might be coming through soon, ladies! And we're both in Wheaton, IL...about an hour south of GL.

am i the only mother with no letter?

Nope! There are several of us! I just keep hoping each day will be the day I get one!

Add me to the list.  Still no letter from my son, but his girlfriend got a letter from him.  Worst part is he mailed her letter to my address.  Maybe tomorrow.  Ship 12/Div 296

I got my letter yesterday...  His girlfriend got three. He also told her the phone calls are being allowed at random. Two SR's had the shiniest boots so they got to call home. I'm sure it's a matter of time before we all have letters and phone calls. He said he's never eaten so well in his life and I'm not even offended! He seems to be like almost enjoying it which makes me happy but he misses everyone tons. He also said there's no limit to the amount of letters he can receive but no packages. He's also part of the ship staff. I'm not sure exactly what that means but he has something to do with mail.

They set up their division like a ship and people get all sorts of duties related to that.
