Hello everyone! I'm Sarah and I'm new here. My son, Alex,  left for MEPS in Milwaukee yesterday and boot camp this morning. We were able to keep in touch since he took his cell phone with him. He called at 4:30 this morning before breakfast and continued to text me on his way to GL. His last text said he was almost to GL and we said our good byes. What a surprise it was to get "the call" 30 minutes later telling me he had made it safely. For some reason I was expecting it later tonight.

I know this is a good thing but like all of you, I'm missing my son so much. It's great to have this support system in place as we all are on the same adventure. I'm looking forward to chatting with you all!

I am so glad for this site to stay in touch with others that are going through what I'm going through.  My son left on Aug 7th from Nashville.  We are from Fall Branch, Tn.  It is so hard not talking to him every night.  I have my moments one minute I'm ok but if I start talking about my son I start to cry.  Can't wait until the first of Oct when we can see him again.

My son left 8/1 as well..and it has been the LONGEST week of my life...

But each day my pride and happiness for his decision is taking over the sometimes overwhelming feeling of sadness.

I still cry now and then, I am SO sick of people asking me how I am "holding up"...ugh...

It will get better..I got my form letter today, my "Kid in the box" yesterday and oddly enough, it seemed to help me cope a little bit more..... we are all here for you- there are some wonderful people here and I truly don't know what I would have done without this place after the first few days.....

msg me is you ever need to talk

Colleen

Sarah, I'm new too!  My son left for bc on the 6th.  I got "the box" today.  I had reminded him (alot!) to write a note and stick it in a pocket or a shoe.  I looked through everything , no note anywhere...and then I saw it!  He had written a note on the inside flap of the box that his stuff came in! ha ha.  That's my boy!

I will say a prayer for all of our sons and daughters as well as the families that are missing them.  Take care!

Hi--my son left the 6th also and i got his box on Friday as well. I haven't gotten the form letter yet...have you? I have his address from his recruiter and have sent lots of letters. I found this site in March, but didn't check in too much until the week before Ryan left. The videos that show what the SR's go thru in BC helped me so much! I tried to show my son before he left, but he didn't seem to want to know :) I'm soo looking forward to getting a letter from him! That was cute that he sent you a "flap note"!! Take care!

Nice to meet you Sarah! I'm Allison and I'm new to this site as well. 2 days to be exact and I'm still learning my way around. The information I have come across has been so informative. Its been getting easier for me since my son left on Monday, 8/06. I miss him like crazy, but I just take it one day at a time... I got "the box' from him today and am looking foward to his form letter. Keep your chin up, we are all here for each other!
