My son's PIR is scheduled for Sept 28.  He has listed 2 grandparents his dad and myself as guests.  He has 2 other grandparents that are not listed one being former Navy (not retired) that would like to attend.  Will the 2 not listed be allowed to attend PIR by using his military ID?????? Do I share my parking pass with them as well?????  Please some advice would be greatly appreciated......

Thanks for the advice....  I hope your soon is back up on his feet quickly..  I know he must be very tired of bc at this point.....

Thanks!!!!  The person with mil id is driving me "nuts"... He says he can't even drive on the base without a "sponsor".  I tried to explain to him the way it works but he is elderly and very set in his ways......  I would just like someway to get him off my back..... I kinda feel guilty he is married to my SR's grandmother.   But just tired to trying to explain to a wall the procedure....   LOL

Have a great day!!!

The navy is pretty good about accommodating everyone for PIR. As they always say with the navy things are always changing. Just like the saying goes "no new is good new" or hurry up and wait. LOL You might want to check with your SR about people that are not listed for his PIR. However many cars are driving on base for PIR you will want to print them a parking pass. You can print more than one. I know some print several in case they lose one. Also if your sailor stays in GL for "A" school keep that pass so you can get on and off base for the rest of the weekend to drop off/pick up your sailor.

How can he not be retired military but have an ID?? You only have a valid ID if you are active duty or retired. Only retired members can be part of you group but not counted as one of the 4 people.

Not for sure about the id, the person I am referring to is my husbands step dad... The step dad said he had some form of id I have not seen it my self just going on what he said,

No, the grandfather who is former Navy will not be able to get in without waiting since he is not retired. Those who are not on the list will have to wait in the Visitors Center until just before PIR begins to see if there is additional seating available. With 13 Divisions in that TG, seating may not be available for all of the extras. There is supposed to be room for 4+ guests for a TG of 16 Divisions, but there have been TG's with only 10 divisions when not everyone got in and TG's with 14 divisions when everyone got in; it just depends on how crazy people get with the extras. Be sure that you, and especially the extras, arrive early since the extras get in in the order they are put on the list. Gates open at 6:30 am and there will already be a line. The closer it gets to PIR time, the worse traffic will be.

Some veterans have an ID that allows them to get medical care, but it will not work for accessing the RTC for PIR.

As has already been said, yes, you can print extra vehicle passes for others who are arriving in other cars. Make sure to have ID for everyone in each vehicle as well as proof of insurance and registration for each vehicle.

(See http://bootcamp.navy.mil/ad_military_retirees.asp and http://bootcamp.navy.mil/pdfs/FamilyGuide.pdf.)

You could see if your SR has a buddy who could put your extras under his name on the Access List.  You would have to know that SR's name and division number and the buddy would have to pass everything and have PIR or the extras would still have to wait.  If you do this and the buddy is alone after PIR, it would be nice to include him for some activities with your family that weekend if possible.

Thank you so much for clearing this up for us.... We have read and heard so many different things.....

You are so welcome. I hope it works out well for you and yours.

Hi. The grandparent who is in the Navy will not need a pass just their military ID. The spouse however will have to be on a list.  About a week before PIR you will go to the PIR link to print off parking passes, you can print more than one.  The problem is if they are not on a list they will not get in.  They suggest having at least one list member in each car. This may not apply to Navy grandparent but I am not sure.  Check with Fire Chief Wife.    Also, many SR's don't use all their PIR spaces.  Your SR can ask them to put someone on their list. We had several additional family members get on the list this way.  Your SR simply has them put on the other lists.  Then the day of PIR you will need to give the name of the person whose list you are on and their Ship and Division.  This is the only sure way of getting in.  Some will just wait at the visitor center and if the hall is not full they will be admitted.  You will have to save them seats in division section if you want them to sit with you because the seats fill up fast.

Only retired military or active duty military personnel get in.  Remember that not all military veterans are retired and those will have to be on the Access List or wait in the Visitors Center to get in if there is room fo extras.

My SR just ttok his 2nd pt test and missed it by 26 sec I'm worried about his next one that's on the 27th if he don't pass that one he will get held back a week does anyone know if he will be able to call home after the next test to tell me he didn't pass before I get on the plane for chicago I don't want to head there if not sure what's going to happen I have a lot of confidence in him I know he can do it

@Amanda, when is your sons PIR???????   I think they have more opportunities to pass before PIR is changed....  I am sure he will do better given a little more time and practice.  I will say a prayer for your SR, what is his name????
