Received my call today. The caller ID will say Waukegan,IL. I'm div 04 ship 304.. My son is doing much better since he wrote the first letter. Hang in there moms. This is my second go-round. My oldest son was in Great Lakes exactly one year ago. He survived or I should say I survived.

That's great, glad u got your call and he's doing well.  Thanks for the boost of faith that we'll all be OK ;)

My son just called me yesterday with good news. He got promoted to E-2. Last Friday we got five letters stuffed in one envelope from him. The first letter was basically "what am I doing here" and "the instructors are so mean, yelling at everyone". By the last letter, he said the instructors are funny and not bad at all. He also said he has made good friends at boot camp. We can't wait to see him on 9/21.

That's great news.  So happy for him and all of you.  I am sure they have to be hardest at first and then can loosen up a little.  I am glad he's making friends.  I haven't gotten mine to mention anyone by name as far as making friends he just says he likes everyone in their division

My son has not mentioned anyone either, but he is a very gregarious person. I am always a little jealous of him with his ability to converse and get along with everyone. He also said the swim test was easy. Of course he has been a lifeguard for the past 3 summers. In his phone call yesterday, I could tell he was still homesick.

Hi, B&E, is your son in division 303 or 304?  I also see you are a fellow Texan!

Yes, he is in 303. And yes, we are in Texas. Which meet and greets do most people go to? I see there are several.

Yeah for Texas and 303 :)  Where in Texas B&E??  I think most are going to Sarge's at the Sundance Saloon.

We live in Austin. Our son's A-school is in San Antonio, which will be great for us.

That is great, I live in San Antonio.  I am hoping that after A school which he'll be in GL that he can work his butt off and get picks for either Corpus or Dallas.  Heard the best in each class during A school gets first pick at where they want to be stationed if there are openings.

'B' was born in San Antonio, but moved to Austin when he was almost six.

We're going to Sarge's.
