Hello, 1st ..what a wonderful site :)

As the title says I am a mom of 3 (ages 17, 15, & 6) who is wanting to join the Navy reserves. Im awaiting the MEPS physical (hoping after reviewing my Med records.. they will still want me ... lol ). I passed the  ASVAB with great scores and pretty much qualified for everything minus 10 jobs.  I've decided on Corpsman or Intelligence Specialist

I have a few quesitons that i cant seem to find an aswer to:

1.As a reservist... Can you do your 2 weeks a year commitment overseas/international ..of course provided that theres a base etc.?

2. Which one gives me more possibility to travel more corpsman or Intel?

3. Is it still mandatory to cut your hair ? or can you have it in a bun? ... my recruiter and my friends recruiter BOTH independently said NO.. just to have it up when I arrive for Processing.  So i want to hear from you guys who have you daughters at the moment in BC and have gotten to speak to them.

4. Because i will be gone anywhere from 7- 10 months depending on what i select during my A school and C school... I can bring along my family... though my recruiter said that they discourage it since ill be "training" for 14-16 hrs a day and would have to put that 1st over my kids. or i can get kicked out. Because they would be staying with my sister back home I would like to have them with me if possible. Spoke it over the kids and they said they wouldnt mind being Military brats for a few months..

Thanks you.

Hello everyone, has anyone heard any updates on Jaxx10?

I would also like an update on Jaxx10 to find out how she's doing.

Hello Ladies, well i graduated bootcamp on 1/18 and im now in Pensacola waiting to "class up"  bootcamp was a breeze, excpt for dealing with the 18-25 still in High school mode drama ..lol ... and to my luck i wasnt the oldest there :0 ... being away for xmas and newyears was so hard, though. I was very fortunate to be able to call my kids almost every other weekend due to my secret clearance interviews. Any questions you might have ...im here ...

btw .. my rate is IT and i will be in school for 21 weeks  (from when i class up aka waiting for a seat to open up) and i can go home after.  For those who are going active then you will have to do C school too for another 6 months or so.  Im currently in "holding and in phase 1 which means i have liberty on base and cant wear civilian clothes yet " :(

Great to hear and many Congrats to you Jaxx10!!! Hope all is going well with you and the kids back home; and A school having started up for you. At least you got the "extra" calls to your kids during secret clearance interviews. Wow, 21 weeks for A school, huh? You mentioned going home after school, but will you get leave at all during?

I'm still hoping to find a way to make it work where I can do the same before time runs out, I'm 38! Our firstborn just shipped out yesterday to GL, he's an AD. He keeps telling me "YOLO, mom" and that I should go for it. I just pray he gets through safe and sound, so very excited for him to do what he wants as his adult life just begins. Can't wait for his PIR.

Best of luck on everything, Jaxx. Keep us posted on your journey. I'd love to hear all about it whenever you're bored and actually have time on hand. Take care, Cate :)

Hello Cate-

Just checking in to see to what you decided? I'm thinking hard again about joining..

This thread is 4 years old, they are probably done with their contract by now.

Jaxx10-

Thanks for the update. Im new to this site and its a Wonderful site. I'm also thinking about joining the military. Can you provide some insight on the process? Im trying to study for the Asvab test and its not easy. Just like you, I'm a Mom of a certain age group. :-) Joining the military is something that I've always wanted to do and now I'm finally able to do so. I look forward to hearing from you or any one else who could help answer any questions I may have. Thanks in Advance.
Hi Sweetnez, I see you are interested in joining as well. If you want, feel free to message me and we can chat about our shared interest and how we are going about trying to make that happen at this time of our lives. I've started the process, but am currently at that "wonderful" crossroads of which path to choose that works best for my family; short term and long term, deployments, benefits, pros and cons, etc. I hope Jaxx10 is doing well, so interested in how it's going for her. Take care.
Best regards, Cate88 :)
Hello Cate88,
