Sadly enough, two days AFTER the day that we were told we would hear something, and if we didn't, he was staying.(we thought we were safe). I got the call that he is indeed coming home. He was given a diagnosis of asthma without even having ANY of the pulmonary function tests he was given PRIOR to enlisting- the same ones that said he did NOT have  diagnosis of asthma, but a rare wheeze that didn't interfere with his breathing, resolved without medication and his lung function was the same before and after a breathing treatment. This is a MD I have worked with for years, one of the best around where we live....

I can't help but feel some anger and disappointment right now. The disappointment and discouragement I have heard in my son's voice has been enough to rip my heart out....He is beyond crushed.. I have contacted a Congressman and he was willing to help us fight this, but after speaking with my son today, he said no. He just wants to come home and get on with his life, whatever that may be. He said if he wasn't good enough for them now, he never will be..... UGH..... This has been his dream since he was old enough to know what it meant to serve his country... I'm truly at a loss on how to make this better for him..

So, now I just sit and wait for them to let him come home... I can't wait to have my boy back..

Thank you for all of the love and support everyone has offered both here and on Facebook.. you have been so good to me and I truly don't know what I would have done without some of you...

You and your Sailors will always be in my prayers,

Much love and blessings,

Colleen

Colleen, I'm so so sorry you're having to go through this. I believe, like the others, that God has a bigger plan that he has put your precious son on this earth for. You're all in my prayers. Rhonda

Colleen. Stay strong for your son. This is not the end of his journey, just the begining. The scars only show where you have been. They do not determine where you go. Insure him that this is a chapter in his life and not the end of his story. I have and I will continue to pray your strength in the Lord.

The NAVY FAMILY

Wow.. my heart is breaking for you and your son. I'm so sorry you guys are going through this.

My boy is also being sent home.  His issue is something to do with swelling in he knee.  He was told he could come back in six months if he got therapy & a doctor's release.  He called yesterday and stated now they are going to do an asthma test on him because they suspect he has asthma.  He said he won't have the test until Sept. 19th, then he goes to legal.  He has no clue when he will be home.  Is this how it worked for you?

Sorry to hear about your son.  My son left for bootcamp 8/1 and he was sent to SEPS on 8/14 for depression.  Which I found out once he got home that he just gave up.  Wasn't to sure he would be able to adhere to what they were asking for.  He finally came home on 9/7.  Once he saw legal it was almost 2 1/2 weeks until he received a date to leave.  The process is slow.  One day he called me and he was sick with a cold, I asked him if he took anything for it and he said no because he didn't want to them to tell him he was too sick to travel.  So it was a long process.  One good thing I was able to call and leave messages for him and he called me back within 10 minutes.  SEPS #847-688-7444.Just tell them that you haven't heard from him in a couple of days.  Since your son is seeing them about asthma, it may take longer.  Far as him coming back, if his rejection code is RE-4 he has no chance to getting back in.  My son can go back if he chooses but he would need a waiver or two.

I pray that he comes home soon and I will keep you guys in my prayers!!!

Thanks.  I heard the precentage of entries after they have been sent home is about 1% and I am not sure I want him to go back.  This experience was not what I expected & I don't know it I can handle the stress again.

Tazdena...hope you're doing okay.  My son who is in SEPS as well told me he knows who your son is.  He has been to legal and is waiting to come home.  He will also be able to try again down the road if he wants to.  Hopefully our boy will be home this week, we'll see. It's too bad your son has to wait until the 19th just to see the Dr. about the asthma...that is a long wait.  I started sending lots of cards and letters to him in ship 5 right away and they have meant alot to him.  We can tell he has grown up so much in the short conversations we've had with him.  It has helped him to appreciate all that he has so much more.  It has been a life changing experience for him and he will be better for it, even though it is extremely hard right now. Keep us posted how you're both doing:)

Colleen sometimes we cannot understand at the time things happen to us but know that God has a plan for your son.  The plan will be great and will allow him to honor his country in one of the many other ways we can do so.  I do understand how heart wrenching this would be for you to hear your son crushed.  Just tell him that God has a plan and he should continue to pursue his dreams through a different avenue.  He will be great!  Take care and God Bless.  You and your son will remain in my prayers as well.

Colleen, I am so sorry!!! I know you have been praying for my son, just as I have been praying for yours. I wish I knew the answers to all of life's questions. No, wait...I don't think I want to know them -- too much responsibility. I will continue to pray for you and your son.
