My son left Aug. 27th. from Oklahoma. I was wondering if there was anyone else with a son/daughter who left for  Boot Camp on this date?

The four people that your son listed can attend. If you have children ages 12 and younger as well as active duty, retired, and military personnel with valid identification do not count toward the maximum number of guests and do not need to be listed. Other than that,no one else can attend except the four people your son listed. That is what the form letter says.

Hi Linda L.,

I have a daughter who left for BC on Aug. 27th.  I was just fine with her leaving until I got the "I'm Here" call.  She cried the whole time she was on the phone!  It broke my heart.  I cried for hours that first night.  About a week later I received my "Kid in a box".  Strangely, I was ok with that.  It probably had to do with the scribbles she drew on the outside of the box...I thought, "Yep, Melissa's just fine!!".  Last week my husband got a phone call from Melissa.  He said she sounded tired, but otherwise doing well and adjusting well to her new way of life.  I have family and friends who were in the Military and they all told me the same thing...ALL of the Hollywood depictions of BC and what it's like is dramatized and sensationalized.  BC is tough, but only to make our young men and women dig deep into themselves and find out what they're made of.  Once I was able to wrap my brain around that, I felt so much better.

Hello Chris F,

I know how you felt. The day my son left I think I cried most of the day. I'm hoping to get a letter soon. I received the form letter. He is on Ship14 Div344. His PIR date is Oct.19. I'm hoping to hear something from him soon.

Is your daughter on the same ship?  I'm focusing on Oct.19th when we will be able to see him again.

Hi Linda,

My daughter is on Ship 13 Div. 347.  Her PIR date is Oct. 26th...it can't come soon enough!! : )  Where is your son off to for A School?  My daughter will be on her way to Pensacola to study IT.  If it's still possible to do, she may try to change that to Nursing...time will tell.

Hi Chris F,

We will be joining you on the 26th as my son Trent will be graduating then too. Our son will be flying out to San Antonio the next day for A school - Master of Arms.

Chris F,

My sons will be going to Mississippi for his A school. I finally received a letter today. It sounds like he is doing pretty good, but he has not received the letters I have written. A little disappointed in that.
