Welcome to the discussion group for divisions 015 & 016.

These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.

Get to know each other, your SRs are!

Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.

Every single question that is asked is important
Every single concern is genuine
Every single member is important to us
We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.

Hang in there!!!

Can't wait to meet you all. I'm kinda nervous about traveling with a toddler and the weather in Great Lakes. But it will be all worth it to see my son.

My son is in DIV 016. Today is actually his 19th birthday! First time I have not seen him or talked to him on his birhtday :-(

I will be doing some serious searching for accomodations this weekend for PIR.  Anyone know of some place to recommend for Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday?  We will be coming from Georgia and I have never been to the Chicago area before.

Thanks in advance!

I just Googled Thanksgiving in Chicago and I came up with a lot of places and the $$ amount.  I am so excited I can not wait.. some of the hotels also have kitchens so if you want you could also do your own thanksgiving..

Happy Birthday to your baby that must be really hard my son is with your son he will be 22 in Jan. 23, 2012.

I dont know how long to reserve hotel room for. If he  will be able to spend the holiday wekend with us. So many unanswer questions. No calls or letters yet. I miss him so much.

LianeMac, get  ahold of Sarge, he is AWESOME!  Sarge will also tell you the best places to eat how to get around and all that good stuff.  He has a meet and greet on Tuesday night.  Cant wait to meet him and shake his hand for all of his hard work in taking care of the families.  At his meet and greet he will give you all the good info.

Ellen, thanks for the scoop on the boxers and the leave.  I was stressing out about if I should book my room longer or not, but knowing that he is flying out on Friday is very helpful.  Now I am just counting the days down til I see him. 2 weeks seems like forever - I keep writing my son as if I am telling him stories everyday.  He was my humor and my rock and I really miss my boy!

Hope all of you are doing well, getting letters, boxes and whatever you need to get through the next weeks.  6 to go and counting!  Hugs to all of you!

Hello all, Im so overwhelmed with all the flight stuff and hotels and rental cars...I have so many questions before I can book this time...so I will ask and pray for answers.
1. I was going to book for tuesday the 20th thru the sunday the 25th, my question is, will our SRs be able to hang out over that weekend? Or will they only get to hang out PIR night and Thanksgiving?  I dont want to be there any longer than need be if I am not goin to spend that time with my son.

2. With that being the holiday will they be coming home after that? Im thinking the answer is no but I still have to ask to be certain.
3. When will we know what the plans are for after PIR? Like school etc..do our SRs tell us that and when do they know? How soon after PIR do they leave for school?
4. What hotels in the area have the shuttles to PIR and back?

Oh also, do we take them anything such as their phones, ipods, clothes etc

I feel so out of touch LOL
thank  you all that answer

Yikes I dont remember the rest but I guess thats a good start. Thank you for any info you can give me.
My son is ship 13 div 016. Add me as a friend if you have SR in the same.

Thank you

LitaMG, sorry I just read your first post about this and now I will try and answer some of these. Sometimes we don't get to the division discussions as often as we would like to.

I guess my first question for you is if you know where your SR is going to school, do you know what his rate is (job)?

From what the RTC has said anyone with SRs flying out to A School, they will have Wed and Thursday with you and fly out to school on Friday. If your SR is flying out on Friday, you can meet them at the airport and wait with them until they board their flight. You can get a gate pass when your sailor is with you to do that.

If your SR is staying in GL for school they will have the entire weekend with you Wed-Sun. Wednesday will be cut in half as they move over to the TSC side for school after PIR, but after doing so they can leave base again for the evening. You should then have Thursday-Sunday with them from approx 6:30am to 10pm (these times can vary)

No, they will not be allowed to go home after PIR.

Your SR would have signed a contract when entering the Navy that will give you an idea what school they will be going to, they do received their orders for school approx two weeks before PIR.

Several of the hotels offer a shuttle to PIR, some don't just ask when you call them. For those that don't have a shuttle Sarge has a great taxi service that can help you out.

Yes, they can have their electronics after BC, they cannot however take them back to the RTC with them. If they are staying in GL for school you can give them to them Wednesday evening after they move. If they are leaving GL for school you can give their items to them at the airport.

I hope I got them all. :)

Hello Ellen0502,

My son has no job in the navy as yet. He was going to do the PACT program which I know nothing about except it will find him a job within the Navy. So as far as school (shrugs shoulders) no clue. Hope this helps LOL

Thank you for all the other info. Really helps a bit. I feel blind LOL

Ps Can Sarge get on base?  we are booked at the Navy lodge as of today. And does anyone know if the lodge has wifi?  Thank  you again

My son is ship 13 div 16, I have decided to fly in the 19th just in case the weather is bad and leave the following Tuesday because I understand he might have leave for the weekend.  Never been to Chicago so want to sight see, I have been checking for thanksgiving but the restaurants have not advertised yet.  I am not sure I will make the meet and greet with sarge but would like to may have many other family members joining I might have to pick up.  Bad thing is I had to book directly with the site instead of like price line just in case thing change.  Cant wait to go, and hopefully I can meet you all

Another day to wait for the mailman.. I hope I get a letter today.  I miss my son so much.  I know that he is doing good, but I would love to hear it.  I am still crying and it has been over 3 weeks.  Alls I can think about is getting now on a plane and seeing him again..

We'll all get our letters soon, so don't give up the hope! I talked to my sailor this morning (he's in Div 16), and though I haven't gotten any letters yet, he told me that everyone's gotten all their family's letters and how much it helps. Remember that even though we're desperate for contact from them, they do feel our love and support! And yeah, I'm camped out next to the mailbox today, just hoping today's the day! Keep your head up! (:

How did you get to talk to him?  Is everything ok? I write a letter everyday. I will keep my fingers crossed the mailman has not come today
