Hello my fellow Navy Moms,
My daughter received her orders the other day, and my feelings were hurt!! She didn't want to tell me bcuz she knew that I would be upset. She's going to Japan and she will be going on a newer ship and she is super excited. She will be graduating from her A-school on Oct. 21, but will be there for 3 weeks after graduating, then will be home for 30 days. At least she will be here for her bday, and Thanksgiving!! We will probably combine Thanksgiving and Christmas together!! I don't know what I'm gonna do!! My heart is hurting but I'm happy for her!!

You're going to join the Japan moms group here, and the group for her ship (there may be one) and lean on the other moms going through the very same thing for support. Do you know which base? We have several there.
You'll also learn handy information in the groups. Like her phone won't work there, she shouldn't plan on having a car, and while she doesn't NEED a passport, it would be very useful in emergencies so she should apply for it while she's home on leave.
Between my orders and my husband's orders, we spent 12 years in Yokosuka. I adore Japan.
My son was in Japan for 3 years, he's been back in the states for 11 months. He had so much fun over there and all the neat stuff he got to see and do. Yes it was hard on me at first, then I got him a Majic Jack for $19 which pluged into his commputer and we could talk all we wanted for free.
Hello,
My daughter arrived in Japan on June 9th and I can tell you it is heartbreaking that she is so far away. She really hated it while on base and was pretty homesick. She is now deployed on the USS George Washington and is so busy and loves her rate. She is s damage controlman and she just loves being on the ship. I am only hoping that when she gets back to the base she will adjust to Japan a little better. She is stationed in Yokosuka.
Hello jrzizhme1....My son is also headed to Japan. He will only be home for 14 days and needs to be on a plane on Nov 1st to Japan. I am anxiety high!....this means no Thanksgiving no Christmas...!! I am wondering how it is over there, communication wise and people wise....do you have any insite or tips?...Lets keep in touch. Thanks
You will still have the holidays, you just have to change the dates, or have new ways to do things. It will be easier for him than for you, there are lots of dinners and church programs and things to do for the single sailors. Sometimes the married sailors invite a bunch of them over and they all celebrate together. Much harder for you than for him, he won't be alone.
It is a tough adjustment!
Hello to All!
I am new to this site. My son will be leaving for Japan on October 29th. He is headed home tomorrow from Great Lakes to Sacramento. I can't wait to see him! I am wondering what options and forms of communication we will have to stay connected. I have heard of Magic Jack??? Any other tips would be greatly appreciated. He will be on the US Lasser....is there anyone else traveling this time frame? Thanks to all and prayers are in place for our Navy Sailor that Blondie posted for. Navy Hugs!
