Welcome to the discussion group for divisions 029 & 030
These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.
Get to know each other, your SRs are!
Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.
Every single question that is asked is important
Every single concern is genuine
Every single member is important to us
We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.
Hang in there!!!

that I do not know was there an I in the information you got from the recruiter?
It doesn't say in the form letter and we have not gotten a personal letter yet
I got the form letter here in AZ yesterday and it was postmarked the 11th
I am from Az too! Recieved the form letter indicating graduation is 11/30/12. Where in Az are you?
i'm from Surprise :)
How about you?
Goodyear Estrella Mountain Ranch. Not to far from each other!
my son left the 4th how about yours
The recruiter didn't say anything about an I.
My son is going on to Sub School. It's great to see that barracks is named for a submarine.
oh that is cool that it is named after a submarine, my son is going to sub school too.
hmmm I guess we will just have to wait for real letters to find out if they are intergrated divisions or not.
Amanda, please tell you son welcome to the "Brotherhood of the Phin". I was a submariner for 20 years, if you have any questions about the deep side of the Navy, please ask. Your son is about to embark on a thrill ride journey of unending training, qualifications, drills, and just plain hard work and in exchange he will be presented with unbelievable unique opportunities to see and do things that most people only hear about in books or movies. During my bubblehead career, in addition to being a submarine crewman, I also got to be a Deep Submergence Vehicle co-pilot, and underwater remotely operated vehicle (robot) pilot, a semi truck driver, and a Recruit Company Commander (now called a RDC). Just remind him to look for opportunities and be ready to take them on. Now lets cheer them on through the adventure of bootcamp!!
I will tell him ChiefDad.. I have not heard that particular expression before :) Did you retire recently or has it been a while.
The expression is an old one still in use. The "Phin" is a abbreviation for dolphin, the submarine qualification warfare pin is a pair of dolphins surrounding a boat. In this case the dolphins are the fish type and not the mammal. I retired 16 years ago.
oh I see I had heard/read about the dolphin pin just didn't connect it :)
my dad has done some sub runs and says it's pretty cool.
were you on fast attack or boomers?
Both. The boomers were great because the schedules were almost set in stone and you got a break from the action when the other crew took the boat out to sea. However, fast attacks have more exciting missions and get to see more liberty ports. There is now a third class of submarine (SSGN), four of the Ohio class boomers have had their missiles removed and are equipped to perform missions similar to fast attacks.
