Ok, so Im pretty confident now that is the right date! yay! Nothing better than snowy cold IL in dec :) (Im from there so I can remember horribly cold conditions, not missing that one bit here in the south, although my fiance is looking forward to it) Maybe we will all be able to meet up before the graduation or something. Good luck to your son.

There will be a Meet and Greet the night before PIR--possibly two or three.  Be sure to watch for info on Sarge's Meet and Greet and plan to go to it.  Sarge has a lot of great info for you.  It will be posted in the Events (by clicking on 20 December) in the next few weeks and there will be info about the Meet and Greets within the PIR group.

When do you think it is safe to make flight & hotel reservations? .....since we are coming from the West Coast...

I got my letter today, my son is ship 03 div 036 and graduates Dec. 21st. I am so excited, only problem is we have 7 going and 4 slots. Does anyone know how I could get three more slots? We will be flying from Texas and need to also buy flights ASAP. Thanks!!

imagagirl1, The RTC has indicated that there will only be 4 guests permitted per Sailor, but those 12 and under as well as active duty and retired military personnel with valid military ID can still get in without being on the Access List.  Shipmates who did not have 4 attending used to be able to put names on the Access List, but this is no longer allowed and the RTC has indicated that if they find out that a person does not belong to a particular Sailor that they will not be allowed in.  So let your SR know who should be on the Access List and the others will need to wait until after PIR and then watch the DVD of PIR when you get it. (See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/pdfs/FamilyGuide.pdf.)

GMA of a SR, Make your reservations ASAP.  Do use one of the airlines, such as Southwest, that will allow you to change your reservations without a fee if you can because it is best to plan for the best and be prepared for the worst and then pray that all goes well.

My son is in Ship 13, Div 034. This is deja vu, for us. His older brother went through Navy boot camp almost exactly one year ago.

To answer an earlier question, you'll know when it's safe to make travel plans about two weeks before the PIR date. Nothing is really official until they pass Battlestations, which usually occurs the Sunday/Monday before graduation. That's far from a formality, but passing their last physical fitness test is the last big hurdle.

And yes, attending Sarge's Meet 'n Greet the night before PIR is informative and fun. We got lucky and stayed at the Spring Hill Suites, right across the parking lot from the Meet N Greet location.

Last year, weather was mild the whole time my son was there...until the day before PIR. Temperature dropped from the mid-50's to about 15 degrees, along with six inches of snow. We're from Arizona, so that was fun.

Proud Dad of soon to be two sailors and one airman. I'll answer as many questions as I can.

Cleaver6, Battle Stations-21 can occur 2 to 10 days prior to PIR.  The "I'm a Sailor!" calls come in on a weekday usually as early as the day of the previous week's PIR (but it could be a day before that for some) to as late as the day before PIR.  One to four divisions go through Battle Stations-21 at one time so you may not get your call on the same day as you did for your other Sailor.  I hope you don't wait to make reservations until 2 weeks before PIR.

Is anyone from Ohio have a SR in Ship 03 Div 036?

I have a son on Ship 3Div 39,from Tennessee, Anybody else?
