OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Sailors pay for transportation to and from Leave, so if you are driving to GL, then your Sailor can go home with you if he has Leave. Make sure your Sailor has his orders before leaving so that he knows when to report to "A" School.

You are very welcome. Is he staying in GL for "A" School? What will his rating (job) be? There are groups on here for most "A" Schools and/or ratings?

One week there and then 5 weeks in Virginia. Is that normal. What is rating job. I'm new at this still learning the military terms.

"Rating" is the Navy way to say "job" or "specialty." Yes, some ratings do have some training at GL before going on to "A" School, but I've never heard of only one week, except for those who are in the THU waiting for security clearance. I don't know of any with 5 weeks of training in VA, but I could have the wrong length written down for some rating.

Thank you. My son gets to come home after graduating on the 21st of Dec. And then he says he must report back to GL for 1wk than he goes to Virginia for 5wks Idk why that is but his job right now is culinary specialist. He wants to became a chaplain in the navy when he gets enough schooling. He has 32 hrs college credits but that's not enough yet. But that's all I know of his job right now.

Going back to GL is probably due to the holiday stand down. Join the group, CS (Culinary Specialist) Moms (clickable link). "A" School is 4 weeks in Ft. Lee, VA. They can be there longer than 4 weeks because of having to wait to class up, but they generally go through INDOC during that time and have plenty to do.

I am happy for your son, Calebs mom. I have a seminary degree and my husband happens to be a minister. My great uncle was a Navy chaplain stationed in San Diego. It is a rewarding career and I hope he is able to fulfill his dream. Nevertheless, I see value in being a culinary specialist. Transferable skills in the real world later on as well.

Thanks so much. You are so helpful. Do you know if I will get to talk to him more when he is in A school? Do they get there orders there where they are going to be stationed. I just have so many questions. Im sorry to bother u with them. You have been so wonderful to me and so helpful. I really do thank you a lot.

Yes, you will be able to speak with him more often. He will be able to call when he is not in class and not on duty. There will probably be times when things are more busy for him than others. Some weeks my Sailor called several times and other weeks he didn't call due to the tests going on for him and I would think it would be the same for yours even though he is in another rating.
Most usually get their orders about 3-4 weeks before the end of "A" School, so he should get his orders soon after arrival in VA. You can check in CS (Culinary Specialist) Moms (clickable link) to see when others have gotten orders.

There is a change for those with PIR 12/21/2012 who go to the TSC at GL. They will have leave following PIR until around 12/30/2012. Her SR is in that TG and that may affect her.

My son gets a leave and gets to come home. He has to report to A school on the 30th. I was wondering if he could ride back home with us or if he had to fly back. He will have to be back in GL on the 30th. So he will fly back of course. We just miss him so much. I'm just so glad to have any time at all with him.
