OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Within a week after your recruit /arrives at Great Lakes, you'll get THE BOX containing his old clothes and other personal items (look for his cell phone in his shoes). Next will be the all important FORM LETTER which will have his/her expected graduation date. We have a stellar group of mentors who will take you from beginning to end (entire Boot Camp & PIR period): ellen0502 (who creates most of the groups), FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW, diannep, and CatMom509. You will be in excellent hands.

If your Recruit just arrived chances are the group for your PIR has not been formed yet. You should join the Boot Camp Moms group & the subgroup for the month of your recruit's departure. Again, we have another group of mentors who will take you through the preparation phase.You'll get a check list of things to do the month before boot camp. You'll learn Navy acronyms and terminology. You'll find out what will take place at MEPS. Llemonelephant will be there to guide you through and point you in the right direction.

THE FORM LETTER:
What does the form letter look like?

Keep this letter in a safe place and/or scan and save on your hard disk as a backup. The FORM LETTER contains four important items.
- Your recruit's SHIP # and DIVISION # (Ships which are their barracks are also named, such as USS Triton, USS Reuben James. Don't confuse these with the real life actual Navy vessels in service)
Just below that is his address. - Further down, you'll find his graduation date. This is his PIR (Pass In Review) date.
- Next, you'll see the password needed to download the parking pass
- Finally, you'll see the four names your recruit has listed official as his guests. (4 per recruit) unless there are many recruit for that PIR date, in which case the number of guests will drop down to 3.
- If you are lucky, you'll find a very brief note from your recruit. There is not much room to write and they may be in a hurry, so don't be disappointed if the note is a short scribble.
GOING TO PIR (GRADUATION).
You will have many questions regarding PIR. Where to stay? When to get airline tickets? What to do around Great Lakes? How to order photos, dvds? How do I sign up for the multiple meet and greets for parents? What should I wear? Join this group - PIR REFERENCE INFORMATION GROUP (clickable link). You'll benefit from the information from others who have made this journey. There will be very few experiences like this in life - enjoy it. Be proud of your recruit.

denise, BQB doesn't post the fB pages on this page, but you can post it within your PIR group for others who like to stay connected through fB. Make sure that the link you post is not broken so that it will take members to the correct page. Here is the correct link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/476509125724417. Actually, FB links may not be posted directly on the public places of the PIR group. You may however send them privately.
We get too much flooding and have had spammers where that is all they do.

Does any body know when pir 1/18 does their battle stations? For div 910?

The "I'm a Sailor!" calls can come 1 to 10 days prior to PIR on a weekday and usually start around 2 pm Central Time, but can start earlier or later, and can come as late as around 8 pm Central Time. Therefore, it is best to have your phone close by all day from now on. We cannot post BST dates openly on the web (See Battle Stations-21 (BST)), but perhaps someone in your PIR group with a loved one in the same division knows and can PM you (they can even put the info in a Friend request and you wouldn't have to accept the friend request to find out).
Please read OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes To Your Profile) within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and make at least the first 2 changes at the bottom. You may want to read some of the other Pages as well and we'd love to have you within that group.

Hey Craig, Are there coins for the A school ships? Also my son is headed to Japan tomorrow. Are there coins for all the ships there?

Just in case Craig doesn't see this since it is in a strange place, I'll answer. There are not coins for "A" Shool Ships, but you may be able to find a coin for the base or installation. https://store.nwtmint.com/Navy/ has challenge coins for various ratings (although they mistakenly include them in "Rate"), some Navy vessels, and some bases and installations. There are other sites on the web as well.
