I THINK they will issue you some kind of pass that will allow you on and off access to the base.  The Navy Lodge ought to be able to tell you how that works.

thank you, i called and talked to someone there and she said she didnt know, so i emailed the address they have and no answeer you   thanks

I can try to find out from my son or daughter-in-law about the Lodge there but most of the bases will allow you to go between the Lodge and the gates unescorted. You will need escort just like every other base for any other purposes. Once you are checked in, you do not have to have him with you to be on the Lodge property, but for most anything else............

thank you, i did talk to my son and he said he thinks he has to be with me to leave the base and come back onto base if i wanted to go to tokyo or sight seeing but he wasnt sure. He said he would find out but if thats so im going to stay at a hotel outside of the base, not the navy lodge because im sure there will be days im going to want to go site seeing and he will be working. I dont want him thinking he has to stay with me constantly because i will be there 2wks (my husband and i ) and i know he has work to do and what not.   thanks

I'm thinking they will issue a pass also.  That's what I've encountered on other bases.  We stayed at New Sanno in Tokyo and they gave us passes that we had to show with our passport.  That way we could come and go.

Have an absolutely AMAZING time!!!!!!!!!!!

My son seems to think i will have to be with him to leave base to site see and re enter but i dont think that sounds right if im staying at the navy lodge, but who knows i do know they have been pretty strict with the new curfew law and stuff. I guess i will just have to wait and find out, i dont want him to feel obligated to stay with me the whole 2wks i am there.  Im so excited, scared, but excited, ive never been out of the country especially somewhere where they dont speak much english lol.    thank you so much

Your sailor will have to meet you at the gate when you arrive.  Then you will go into security and they will issue you a temporary pass.

I stayed at the Yokota air force base.  I was there on business for the DoD.  It wasn't my sailor who met me, but it worked the same way.  The pass has a bar code on it that they scan at the gate.  You will be able to go anywhere on the base that does not require security.  (I was given a badge for the building I was going to).  You will be able to go into the NEX, but your sailor will have to purchase things for you.  I was given a temporary pass for the NEX.  I don't think he will be able to do that for you.  Your sailor can always inquire about that.   I remember going to the bowling alley, bank, library, enlisted club, post office (you can mail your purchases home) and the food places without security.   I was able to eat at the officer club, but my DoD id may have gotten me in there.

Your sailor needs to find out how all of it works.  He is your sponsor and he is responsible for you.

Thanks, i have talked to my son and he seems to think he needs to be with me at all times i enter or leave base, but i dont think that sounds right, if thats the case i will look for a hotel other then the navy lodge, i dont want him feeling obligated to be with me at all times i leave because i do know he has work and other obligations, seems how i will be there 2 wks im sure there will be days he cant leave.   thanks for your reply

You can get a guest pass:

http://www.cnic.navy.mil/Atsugi/InstallationGuide/GateHours/index.htm

2. House Guest Pass (not to exceed 60 days). These passes are available for guests visiting NAF Atsugi personnel who will be staying on base for a period longer than 3 days. Medical Insurance or Traveler's insurance valid in Japan is required to obtain this pass with a minimum coverage of $100,000 US dollars.

Hello kylesmom - my son just left for Atsugi today. We hope to visit summer of 2014. When are you going? How long has your son been here and does he like it? Sorry I'm full of questions - just nervous!! Have a gret trip!

Dale-the Atsugi base is relatively small (by military standards) so he will have a difficult time getting too lost. My son is blonde and he has managed to not get lost there so.... :-)   He, and his wife especially, enjoy his time on shore. I think it has done a lot for them as a couple too. I hope your son enjoys his time in Japan and in the Navy.

My son went to Atsugi on the 16th, we are still trying to figure out communication. The time difference isn't helping.
