This website has been so helpful in someone like me who is brand new to the Navy. My son, Nick left for the Great Lakes yesterday (1/23/13) for boot camp. He left from Boston, we live in RI. He joined the Navy Reserves! I am so proud, sad at the same time and worried about the frigid cold out in the Great Lakes. Thanks for sharing your information about graduation, acronyms, etc. Its been unbelievably helpful. Anyone else from our area?

Join the group, DEP-Leavin' for Boot Camp in January, to connect with others with loved ones who left yesterday and may have PIR together.
You will also want to join Navy Reserve Moms and Rhode Island Mom's.
You may want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. Once you know your SR’s PIR date and/or division number, watch in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and/or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that once it has been created. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening, but you will also want to check out the other Pages in all of the groups.

Hi Sweet Caroline (love that song), I would love to get together to chat maybe over coffee or a drink. Thank you for all of the information, it was very helpful! I am in Smithfield. I am so worried about the frigid cold in the Great Lakes. Hoping my son is warm and doing well! When does he need the phone card? I was told not to send him anything, just letters once he send me his address. Let me know if your interested in getting together. Hope your son is well and enjoying SC. Thanks -
If your recruit didn't take a phone card, send one as soon as you get the address. Phone Cards and Phone Calls within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will tell you more about that and tell you where to get free phone cards. Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit will tell you about letter writing.
I so wish he and I were told that he needed one. He was told only to bring his license and SS card. Thanks for the info.
Some recruiters know and apparently some don't and you didn't find N4M until afer he left, so we couldn't help you with that. :o(
I know it's too late for you, but let the recruiter know to tell future Sailors to take a phone card and to let them know about http://callsforrecruits.org/. You can show the recruiter http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/what_to_bring.asp. (Phone cards are not required because recruits can buy them at the RTC.)
OK sure will. So my son can buy one at boot camp. He does have money with him. I will go to Walgreens tomorrow and get one and have it ready to send him as soon as he sends me his address! Sure wish I was told about your website beforehand, not the day he left. This is soooo helpful!
Make sure you read the Page, Phone Cards and Phone Calls, within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). It is very important to activate the phon card if you choose to buy one. Yes, also tell the recruiter to let people know about N4M as soon as the future Sailor enters DEP.
I sure will! Thank you
:o)
HI, trying to figure out how to chat and having trouble. Getting your chats. Can tell me how to reply back to your chat, that would be great. I am doing Ok. Got 'the box' today, very weird opening it. Waiting for the letter. I think about Nick often and wonder what he is doing at that moment - push ups, lunch, etc. How are you? How often do you get to talk to your son?
Nick's mom from RI, There is never any reason to give your email address publicly on this site. If you have a reason to email someone, "Friend" them and then you can communicate through PMs through the site. Please edit your reply to remove the email address if there is time. You may be able to comment to others by posting on their Profile and Commenting back. So sorry, I was able to delete the message above. Frustrated in trying to figure out how to navigate through this website when someone sends you a message. Any advice would be great! Thanks -
