My son left on Thursday the 16th and I got his 'I got here" call this morning at 230 am. It was the quickest call I have ever had. I know he is excited but also know he was very tired by then due to no sleep for 24hours and he had just arrive at BC so he probable didnt get to much sleep last night either. Cant wait for his box to come and hopefully letters in 3 weeks. So I do feel for you, you must be his angel so just pray for him when you think of him and he will do great.
My husband went to MEPS on the 15th and got to Chicago on the 16th, so you're not alone. I also got my last call around the same time as you. It was the strangest thing how quiet the background was. I thought I would hear a million conversations and RDCs yelling, but it was just me and him. The first couple of days were the hardest. I don't think I stopped crying for longer than a few minutes. I still think about him all the time, but it's less sad than it was before. I try and think about him earning his title as a sailor, and working toward a better life together. Every moment that passes brings me closer to seeing him again. The worst part is that I'm constantly concerned about him. He's very tough and I know he can hold his own, but it kills me to think of him tired, hungry, and stressed out constantly during the first week or so (P-days.) I wrote him a note to keep with him before he left and have been writing him since then. Sometimes I write him three pages worth of rambling. I just wish he could get my letters sooner. I know he needs them the most right now. Just try to keep yourself busy. I hadn't been away from him for more than a couple of days (with cell phone contact) for the past three years, so this is a very foreign feeling to me as well. It will get better though, I promise. I'll be counting down the days along with you. Stay strong for him.
You must be brave and realize that this is something he wants to do (no matter what lead him to this moment - it was still a choice to enlist). He needs to know you are strong and OK so that he can focus on the things he needs to learn. He's in one of the safest places in the world right now. Now is the time for you to start focusing on your goals and making something positive happen. Make him proud.
My son left Jan 15 for BC. I am his mom but I'm the one he made his last 20 second call to. Can't wait to receive the so called 'box' with his mailing address included. It's almost been a week and will be over before we know it. This is all so new to me too but I find the websites so helpful and comforting!
Has everyone gotten their box yet? I received mine on Monday. I thought I would cry, but he managed to leave me notes and even write on the inside of the box. He seems like he's in good spirits, or at least he was at that time. I'm not sure how he's feeling now, a week later. All of his clothes were inside out and there were things like loose change and his boarding passes thrown in. That kind of shows how rushed the whole process was. I haven't received the form letter yet (packet containing his address and PIR date) but hopefully that will arrive tomorrow. I can't wait to send out the pages and pages of letters I've been writing him since he left. I think I could make an entire novel of just letters once boot camp is over. So many things have happened that he has no way of knowing yet since I can't send out the letters. I can't wait for him to read all about them and smile when he sees the pictures I've printed out for him.
Join the group, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), and check out the Page, PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend, to give you information about what happens after PIR--check out the other Pages as well. No, he will not go home until after training or "A" School. What will his rating (job/specialty) be? That will help to determine how much time you will be able to spend with him PIR weekend. The only time a new Sailor gets Leave between BC and "A" School is during the holiday stand down at the "A" Schools around Chirstmas and New Years; the rest of the year, the Sailor must wait until after "A" School or training to get Leave,
The form letter should be coming within the next few days to a week. Once you know your SR’s PIR date and/or division number, watch in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and/or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that once it has been created. You may also want to join PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups as well as in the PIR group. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups.
Other groups you should check out are Girlfriends, Fiances, and Wives of Sailors, Navy Girlfriends, PROUD NAVY GIRLFRIENDS:), and Boot Camp Girlfriends.
