OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

5 Stages of Boot Camp for Parents & Loved ones

Hi All,

A boot camp Dad posted this on facebook and I thought is was so good, I wanted to share it her:

The Five Stages Of Loved Ones During Basic Training. Stage

1: Denial ... The first thought is one of disbelief. The person cannot believe their Loved One wants to join the Navy. (Are you kidding me???) This stage is often accompanied by deep sighs and a hope that sanity will return.

Stage 2: Anger “OK. Are you are just doing this to get even with me for something? Why are you trying to be mean me? Have you sought professional help?“

Stage 3: Bargaining “If you don’t go, I will cook your favorite meal EVERY DAY.”

Stage 4: Depression “OMG, (He /She) really is gone to Boot Camp. I won’t get a letter for TWO WHOLE WEEKS! And no phone calls for a MONTH! And I won’t get to see (him / her) for TWO MONTHS!!! Sigh… Life as I have known it is over… “

Stage 5: Acceptance “PIR is almost here!!! I am so excited!!! I am so proud!!! What am I going wear? How do I get there? Can my entire extended family attend? Can I stand next to my Sailor during PIR? Will there be an entire team of photographers and videographers dedicated to my Sailor’s every move? Can I meet (him / her) outside before they march in? Can I come live in their Division area with them until Graduation Day??? Etc… etc… And then suddenly, before you know it, you are sitting there and the door rises and in they march in to the Drill Hall ...

BEYOND BOOT CAMP (he/she - interchangeable):

Relief: (Applause - clap hands). Thank God. Thank God. He has A job. And a good one too.
Amazement: Wow - he is going to do that for a living! OMG! MY kid? Who knew? :)
Pride: perfect strangers shake my hand and thank me for my son's service - like I did something great - this one is all on him. I am just a parent. But I want to hug every sailor, soldier I see at an airport.
Resentment: The Navy owns him. Just once, it would be great for him to be able to be home for Xmas, Thanksgiving, or my birthday. Don't they know these are important dates? His family needs him.
Acceptance: The Navy will send him to wherever he is needed. He has no say. We have no say. He made this commitment. He has been trained to do a job. He will honor his commitment. He walks away from his family on leave knowing they (like him) are heartbroken and counting the days before he comes home again. We accept the the facts of life (the good and the bad) as a military family and cherish the days together.

The beyond boot camp rang so true for me ,except when he came home on leave, the pride was-"why won't you wear your uniform everywhere we go? You look so great and sure of yourself when you are in it!"

Experienced the same thing when we announced my husband was leaving for BC. He hadn't even left and people were telling me to thank him for his service and thanking me for my sacrifice. Felt kinda awkward, like "I haven't done anything" or "He isn't IN yet."

me too. The day my son and I spoke with a recruiter I was at a dr's appt, all frazzled from our meeting and my doctor said to tell them (# 1 son wants to join AF) thank you, I have never been prouder. Was crying and smiling together.

My daughter just left on Nov. 13, im sad but i didnt show her that im crying coz i want her to be tough. Told her that "this is it, this is your drema since you were a child and no turning back" and she just hug me and said " ill be ok mom, my recruiter really did a good job he help me physical and mentaly ready". Im so proud of her , even before joining the Navy, she played 3 sports, softball, basketball and tennis..and now in the Navy i coundtn be more prouder. Her sister is a little bit lonely right coz they been so close and always together , i think shes gonna be fine..dad was so proud of her... always told her " remember they gonna break you down but they bring you up together as a team.." dont worry about the yelling and screaming mom does all the time.. hahahaha just kidding..
