Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My son enlisted Friday 2/22- New Seabee Mom
Thank goodness for amazing online communites like this. My oldest son Cody is finishing his senior year graduating May 23rd. He enlisted this last Friday and will be an EO (Equiptment Operator) in the Seabees. Cody will leave for Great Lakes,IL on August 5th for Basic. Although his dad (my ex-husband) was in the Navy when we met, being a Mom is a whole new ballgame. I hope to learn from you awesome ladies out there. Has anyone elses sons gone to Great Lakes for Basics?

Hi there and welcome. My son enlisted in the Reserves after his third year of college. He started boot camp in June 2012 then went to Ft. Lost in the Woods for A School. He was home in time for Thanksgiving with a rank of EOCN. He really enjoyed his time learning the equipment. He is now back in college and will graduate at some point. He goes to school in Ventura County and is based out of PH. What questions do you have about Great Lakes?

Thank you for your quick reply. I don't know if I have specific questions about Great Lakes but I do about what I need to do to prepare for Cody to enter boot camp. He will turn 18 in May so he is a young one. What is EOCN?

EO is Equipment Operator and I believe the CN is constructionman? To enter boot camp--have him keep up with his training so he stays in shape.

Hi Couldntbeprouder, and welcome to Seabee moms my son joined right out of high school too it has been almost 2 years now he just turned 20 and is on his first deployment. My son is a builder with homeport in Gulfport. I will gladly answer any questions and offer as much support as you need. It will be a roller coaster of emotions for awhile.. All recruits go through boot camp in Great Lakes. Graduation( PIR ) will be amazing when you get there. There is a dep group for each month that is helpful and the boot camp group Is the best. I kept a Notebook handy and wrote down so many useful tips and ideas feel free to friend me there is lots to talk about!

Couldntbeprouder, Great Lakes is the only place future Sailors go for basic training.....There are a lot of great videos on the navy for moms site, you should join new members...Be prepared for a roller coaster of a ride, not having any contact for about the first 3 weeks and only a letter and a precious call every now and then is sooooo hard, but sooooo worth it. Waiting for them to go through Battlestation 21 and getting the "I'm a Sailor" call is amazing...and so is the graduation! My Seebee is a BU (builder) he graduated (PIR-Pass In Review) was 12/21 and he has been in A school in Gulfport MS since then....he's learning sooo much ! He turned 19 in bootcamp.. Julieb1019...It's been a while, I see your son is still in deployed, I wish him and you the best! My son has been in Gulfport 2 months and seems to be doing well....Emotionally he has had some hard times...his long time girlfriend broke up with him and now some of his best friends are being stationed on the west coast....It's hard for these young kids! But he's excited about everything he is learning (he's a BU too) and has done well on all his tests. We're just Happy to be able to talk with him daily!!! Take care!

My son graduated boot camp November 2, 2012 and went right to Fort Leonard Wood to begin his "A" school training for Equipment Operator. He graduated there February 14 and is in Gulfport, MS doing his ECS training for the next 4 weeks. He is enjoying Gulfport much more than Fort Leonard Wood aka Fort Lost in the Woods. Good luck to your son in boot camp and his A school training.
