as my son departed for bootcamp (4/4/13) I was and still am the proudest mom around , but with these couple days since have been alot harder than i expected. LIttle things as reminders but with lots of joy in knowing how proud i am. With lots of love and support for myself and family, I am very grateful. With all of this happening and as each day that goes by, my questions always fall back on not if he is doing good, getting enough food or sleep  ( as I know he is doing well ) but what he is doing. I think (as with any parent) with out the " instant contact " with your child that we have taken for granted for all of these years, it is very hard not to go for your cell phone and have to remind yourself that they are no longer going to have thiers to answer.

I am wondering if the others out there have the same questions or maybe another parent out there are maybe a couple weeks ahead of me and can give pointers.... when did your letter come? when did your box come? how are you doing weeks later? when did you start recieving letters from your son/ daughter?

My son left on April 1. I too have been writing. I have 3 letters and a questionnaire from this website ready to send to him. I believe we have to wait for the form letter to arrive, which will have your SR's address. Someone posted earlier to mark the backside of the envelope with a 1, 2, 3, etc. so your SR will know the order in which to open. The form letter is supposed to arrive about 10 days after their arrival at RTC.

I also read on here that never send an envelope that requires extra postage. VON P, you might be better off sending multiple envelopes if that is required. check out the info here:http://www.navyformoms.com/group/bootcampmoms/page/letter-writing-f...

I also read that some don't receive the first letter for 3-4 weeks :(

I keep wondering how and what my boy is doing......

Here is a link that helps give you a picture of what our boys are up to ;)

this a huge help. i am actually going to print it out . that is surly a day by day

VonP when did your boy leave? I am anxious to find out what ship he is on at RTC so us moms can connect! Wouldn't it be fun if we met before our boys :)

I know what you mean about your husband. Mine is the same way. He is being patient, but doesn't have that "mom" thing going on. I joined navydads.com too. I know any gender can join any site, but I will tell you this site is much more active!  http://www.navydads.com

It is getting a little easier for me .... but still the million dollar question for me is what are they doing. I know there are so many interesting things he is so excited about doing ... but so weird that he can not communicate with me when he is doing them. just a huge ajustment for me

My son left on 4/3/13 for bootcamp & I am going through all the same emotioins, etc y'all are talking about.  I'm so anxious to hear from him & just know how everything is going & to hear his voice.  I'm also quite anxious to find out the date of their graduation so we can make our travel plans to attend. This past week since he left has been the longest week ever.  I try to keep busy but of course it's hard not to think about him constantly, especially when I get home from work & he's not there.  We did receive his box yesterday, which was very bittersweet for me.  There were some various papers in the box but none that showed the graduation date or his address for sending letters.  I'm hoping to receive some additional information soon in regards to that.  And, I want to add that my sadness is for me, missing him tremendously as you all know the feeling,  but on the other hand I am so extremely proud of him for his decision & dedication to joining the Navy!
