I understand that my sailor will get a BHA and that when he gets his orders after A-School we will be moving.

I am curious as to what goes on during the transition and where we stay until we get into a place of our own? They only get their papers a few days before leaving A school so we really don't have time to set up anything in advance as far as living arrangements so what happens during that time as far as where we live? Do they put us up in a hotel until we get a place or what?

They usually do put the family in a hotel or the Navy Lodge until a place can be found.  There is a time limit on how long a dependent spouse will be housed.  They usually get their orders a bit more than a "few days" in advance, usually enough time to search online for an apartment.  Most get a week or so of leave after A school, a few travel days, and the command may choose to give "house hunting" leave... time off to look for a rental.  Often ten days, but not always.  Depends on what they need the sailor to do as they report in.

I am assuming you're married, forgive me for checking....

Yeah, I know that I wouldn't be going with him if we weren't married.

A lot of places have pretty high rent, and require first and last month plus deposit...How long do they give you to come up with all that money for a place?

If you move into an apt out in town, odds are they want that money up front before you move in....they don't give you a grace time to give them the money while you live in the apt.   Keep in mind, it doesn't matter that your spouse is a Sailor...apt are civilian property and you have to obey by their rules.  All the apt's I rented they wanted all that money up front and sometimes I had to pay a deposit on my utilities as I was new to the state.

I recommend young Sailors with families live in base housing...than the housing allowance it taken right out of their paycheck and also some utilities are included like electric, gas, and water.

But even if you want to live in base housing most times there is a wait time.  So I recommend you start saving money now
