My son has posted on twitter that he has not succeeded in passing his swim qual ( as he puts it) & is very discouraged at this point;( as a divorced parent I am not informed about what this swim qual actually consist of? I'm asking anyone that could give me any info about it to please do so.....I would greatly appreciate it since his father has total control STILL of my son. I know that he's a great swimmer so I'm confused WHY he's not passing this test?;( thank you navy moms for being SOO informative & helpful in this very hard time.

Mind you has has already passed A school! So I'm confuses why he's stuck in Great Lakes?

What is his rating (job/specialty)? That may help to answer the question.

He is at Great Lakes graduated A school march 21..... He's going for machinist mate from what I understand, but this swim qual he tweets bat that he can't pass is having an effect on the orders he was supposed to receive to go to Mississippi? Very confused;(!

You may wish to join the group, Machinest Mates (clickable link) and maybe someone in that group can help you. I'm not finding anything on it.

MM's don't need a special swim qual, it must be the command he was supposed to go to needed him to be a second class swimmer click there to learn more about the test.  Even if people think they are good swimmers, the Navy is very picky about it being done the right way when it comes to second class swim qual.

"SOO seeing that this a Navy site for MOTHERS I thought I could get some kind of answer on this subject from other mothers that sons might have been through a similar experience."  Regarding that comment...people can't help if you don't give all the details, and if you don't know them you might want to say that as people don't know you and your son are estranged

As always, you have "the real" information. Thanks for taking the time to answer questions time and time again. It's a difficult situation for taqJrsnavymom no matter what. Hope it improves for her in time. I believe it will. The young men will mature and they will see that they can have a decent relationship with both parents is possible. In taq's case, her son might have to tell the dad to back off. In general, time will help him see both sides.

What does being a divorced parent have anything to do with  you not being informed?

A lot. My husband is an attorney with a great deal of knowledge about family law.  Control of information is one of the way a husband (or wife) will use to punish the ex-spouse. Young men are often more comfortable being close to their dad than their moms when the parents split.  They are always concerned that someone will call them a momma's boy - so young guys will often over react by ignoring the mother. Hurts like hell for the mom who is hurting already from the divorce. But some ex's can be real heels.

I have been happily married for 33 years - so it can be done.

Thank you for your very knowledgeable response to my blog. Everything you said describes my situation to a tee! Many people do not understand, it was very comforting to see that someone out there does;( there's nothing I wouldn't do to make it different but the reality of it is exactly what you described it hurts like HELL;(! I just wanted someone to inform me on this swim qual so I have some what of an idea what my son is going thru:(! Not a perfect situation but unfortunately it's the one I'm in. BunkerQB YOU HAVE MAYBE SHED SOME LIGHT TO OTHERS THAT THIS DOES HAPPEN& doesn't mean I love my son any less in fact thee exact opposite! I LOVE HIM SO MUCH IT'S A WAY FOR THE EX TO HURT ME MORE THAN HE ALREADY HAS:(! By using his own / our son!!! It's a sick twisted way to do so but I don't blame my 19 yr old son I blame his father!!!!!!! I'm just thought NAVY FOR MOMS WAS THE BEST PLACE TO START?
Due to the fact that his father( my ex-husband) has turned him against me for his personal hatred for me I am unable to converse with my son on this matter! Sadly enough twitter is my ONLY WAY to find out what is going on in my sons life;( I recently seen a tweet about the swim qual & how he was having a hard time passing it. SOO seeing that this a Navy site for MOTHERS I thought I could get some kind of answer on this subject from other mothers that sons might have been through a similar experience.

This truly is a site for ALL loved ones though it started off with moms so please keep that in mind so that you don't inadvertently scare off a newbie that isn't a mom such as a sister, father, girlfriend, wife, etc.  I am not a mom, I am a Navy Veteran and a Navy wife so I have 'lived Navy' for 13 years and have a little bit to offer to this community, I hope.  I'm sorry that you are shut off from your son, that has to be so hard. ((((hugs))))  I advise you to reach out to your son and see if he responds in kind?  I hope that you get your answers soon.

This site IS for ALL LOVED ONES and if implied differently I'm truly sorry. My words /emotions may have came acrossed that way, which I didn't intend them too:( thank you for kind words, I pray daily to hear from my son. This has to be thee hardest thing I've ever experienced yet I will never stop trying! I will keep reaching out to him in hopes that one day he will respond;( #tagJrsnavymom
