Hi! My son is leaving August 6th from Colorado. He's 24. Even though he's been on his own for a while I'm definitely going to miss him being close by. I love this site and have been trying to filter through all of the information. I also just found out that although he received several rating options he hasn't actually picked one on paper. He says the recruiter hasn't done that yet. He has been meeting with the recruiter once a week. Anyone else with their kid in the same situation?

The only thing that has changed for my son was his Paygrade. His option was picked before leaving MEPS. I don't think you should worry to much .My son has been a Deeper since November. Reports today after school. Any child of any age leaving is hard .. Stand Strong Momma : )

I hand my son over to his Recruiter on July 31. He is set to be at Great Lakes as of the 1st of August.. My plan is to see him sworn in and head off to the airport to watch him leave . My son enlisted November of last year. I at times think it would had been easier had he just enlisted and then headed off to Boot Camp. Every minute of everyday I know the time is getting closer.. UGH, I will miss him so much .

i want to watch my son get sworn in as well, he will sware in on the 15th of aug .. then off to Great lakes for bc..

My son is being swore in on the 31st, but I will take him to St. Louis the afternoon of the 30th, and stay in the same hotel that the recruits are. I ask the recruiter how it worked, if he took him or if I could, he said I could, so I just got a room there too. Where will you son be sworn in at??

our daughter leaves 8/14 for BC in GL

Hi everyone, been waiting for an August Dep page to start up.  My son is scheduled to leave sometime between Aug 5-8.  It was Aug 12, then changed to 5th and now maybe 8th...ugh.  This did not happen to my older son almost two years ago.  Anyway this is my second go around as a Navy Mom, I am very excited for my boys.

This page will fill up more as time gets closer and when your recruit goes to bootcamp a PIR

(performance in review "graduation") group will start for the division they are in.

@ Kadikaboom626 my older Sailor went in with a contract but younger had to DEP in for a random job first then change his contract to what he wanted.  Its not always that easy though.

Welcome Kadikaboom626, Dorothea and Paigesmom....

Thank for welcoming me Micka.. I am not really good at replying on here as of yet. But I am learning .

Hi Micka!
So glad you joined our little group. Unfortunately I have a feeling we will all be seeking your sage advice since you've been through this once already. Love your name by the way, my granddaughter's name is Mikah, how cool is that!

So did your son start off as un designated or did he change his rating? I have been scouring the navydep.com site and found recommendations to immediately have him speak to his recruiter about changing his rating. He's pretty bummed out today as this is not how he understood what he was signing up for. I know we can't protect them every step but I really hate to see him get started disappointed before he gets to BC. Hopefully we have time to get this straightened out and that a rating is available now. They only offered him 3 positions when he was at MEPS and he thought he was making a good choice. He scored high (93). I wish I knew enough to be more helpful to him. Any good tips?
I forgot to ask which rating your son is signed up for now? Gosh one of these days I'll actually get this info to sink in!

Ask away I was also a Navy wife.  My first Sailor is in last phase nuclear power training.  He will go to a sub sometime in Oct.  My second recruit is special ops. It took him 7 mo to get selected (in Dec 2012) then they dropped it because he wasnt enlisted so he enlisted and was selected again in Jan.  You have to train with SO personel and test once a month then go in a draft. Kkind of like football.  If your son has a 93 depending on what he scored high in, he should look into nuclear power.  It's hard but good jobs in civilian world.  It's what my hubby does.  I am surprised they are not on him with a high score.

Hi! My daughter leaves for GL August 28. It just feels way too soon! We are in Northern California. As long as I stay busy, I'm doing ok, but I don't expect that to last! I've been reading this site daily, trying to prepare myself. My daughter, on the other hand, is excited and can't wait to get started!
