Hi, My son left the Cleveland Ohio area for Great Lakes Boot Camp this past Tuesday, May 21st. I'm looking for other moms of sons and daughters who arrived there at the same time. Thanks!

I see you have joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones); join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in May, to connect with others with loved ones who left that day and may have PIR together. You may also want to join, or at least check out,  PIR Reference Information and New Members Stop Here. Once you know your SR’s PIR date and/or division number, watch in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and/or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that once it has been created. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening, but you will also want to check out the other Pages in all of the groups.

Hello MOMLoves Ryan did you receive your box yet? I got mine today so if not you should get it by Tuesday since Monday is a Holiday.  My daughter arrived there on May 20th.

No, I haven't received it, yet. It sounds like there are a lot who haven't received theirs either, though. So, I guess I won't worry, yet. Do they not deliver on Saturdays? I was hoping I would get it tomorrow.

I just looked and the FedEx site says that they deliver on Saturdays, but it has previously indicated only weekdays--I think weekend delivery is an additional fee, so be surprised if you receive it this weekend. Since Monday is a holiday, they probably won't be delivering then. You can go to www.fedex.com/us/delivery and set up the delivery options. There is more on that in Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

Got my box today!! Found a note on the front door when I came home from work.  Called my DH and off I went to pick up the box at Fed Ex.  I refrained from opening it the parking lot.  I wanted by hubby and I to open it together.  Good thing.  I cried like a baby when I smelled his shirt.  It smells just like him.  Dirty little secret - probably won't wash that shirt until we leave for PIR!

Iam still looking for my boy in a box too. I think it is because of the Holiday.

I'll give it 'til Tuesday before I start to get upset. It's hard not having any contact.

This may be hard to hear but take a deep breath and think, "I have got to get use to this". If you are going to be able to handle the separations (long periods of non communications particularly during deployment), you might as well start today. For many it's hard - we have gotten so used to instant communications/contact via phone, text, email, twitter, facebook. Good luck.

Yes, it's OK to vent here.

Is it true that deployment is 6 months long and then they have 18 months inbetween? That's what the recruiter told me. And...when they are deployed, is there no contact at all. Or is there contact via Facebook or something?

I’ve been researching this since I will be facing this with my Sailor for the first time this year. The length of time at sea can vary depending on the vessel and the mission. A vessel can be at sea for a few days or weeks to several months as in 3 to 9 months and a 3 month tour could get extended to an 8 or 9 month tour while the vessel is underway. They have some port calls during that time, so they are not at sea the whole time. They can be back in the home port for a month to several months, again depending on the vessel and the mission. Yes, there will be times of no contact for weeks at a time. There are only certain times that a Sailor can use the internet or make calls, so contact will be infrequent. Where the vessels go depends on what part of the fleet they are assigned to. Take things one step at a time--first your SR has to get through BC and then "A" School. What will his rating (job/specialty) be? There are groups on here for most of the "A" Schools and/or ratings and knowing that can help you to plan for PIR weekend and also may help you to find out where most of the Sailors with that rating are being stationed after "A" School.

I'm sorry to say that you cannot believe everything the recruiter says.

He is supposed to be AO.

Sometime between now and the end of BC, join  AO Moms, Families, Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!! and Parents of A School Sailors in Pensacola.  The Rating Information Card for Aviation Ordnanceman (AO) can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ao.pdf.

He will fly out to "A" School so check out the info on that within PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you plan your weekend once you know the PIR date.
