Our son left on 5/14 for boot camp. I received the box today with belongings, but the enclosed envelope with the Great Lakes address only gave attn: Student Control Dept. with no ship number. Does any know if I send mail, will he get the letters with no ship number? Do not want any of his letters to get lost.

Thanks

The envelope in the box is the envelope that he took his paperwork to the RTC in. DO NOT mail letters to that address. You will have to wait on the form letter, which typically arrives about 10 days after his arrival at the RTC, to get his address and PIR date. Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit will tell you more about that.

Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in May, to connect with others with loved ones who left that day and may have PIR together.

You may want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. Once you know your SR’s PIR date and/or division number, join the group for that. It will either be   PIR 07/03/2013 TG 34 - 11 Divisions (247-256, and 934) or PIR 07/12/2013 TG 35. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening, but you will also want to check out the other Pages in all of the groups.

My fiance also left on May 14th. I'm waiting for the form letter, I too, thought it would be in there with the box but it wasn't... So, I'm a waiting fool over here.

My daughter left on May 14 as well. I got her address from her recruiter 3 or 4 days after she left.

Although having the address from the recruiter may give you some peace of mind, it is best to wait on the form letter before sending letters. Recruiters don't always give the correct address and even when they do have the correct info, letters mailed before receiving the form letter do not get to the recruit much faster, if at all, than letters mailed after receiving the form letter. See Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.

He will most likely be writing you letters every Sunday, and they will probably get mailed out that Monday. The return address will be on the letters. I just got out of bootcamp 4 months ago and am still in A school here in Pensacola . If you have any questions about bootcamp feel free to ask while It's still fresh in my head.

Welcome and thanks for your service. There may be some groups on here that you can help with, perhaps the one for your rating because those with Sailors heading there will have questions that you can answer. What is your rating going to be?

My daughter left on 5/20 and arrived on 5/21, but beyond the "I'm here" call, I have heard and received nothing since.  Is that normal?

It is a little unusual that you have not received "the box" by now, but once in a while that does take up to 2 weeks to arrive even though most get it within a few days. The form letter usually arrives within 2 weeks (10 days is average), but has taken up to 3 weeks at times, so call the recruiter tomorrow and get her address since tomorrow is 2 weeks.  Double-check the address the recruiter gives you against those at http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp or in Ship/Division--How it Works within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones).  I invite you to join that group while you are there and to check out the other Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) as well.

Is there someone else that she would have sent "the box" and the form letter to? Is it possible that she trashed or donated her clothes? Did she take her cell phone with her? If so, someone would have received or should be receiving "the box". You can go to www.fedex.com/us/delivery and set up the delivery options for "the box" and see if there is a delivery pending.

If you receive a 'real" letter without receiving the form letter, there is info in Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit about what to do so that you have the info you need for PIR.

I just found a post of yours where you indicate that your SR is in Division 936. That actually does explain some things. Sometimes one or more recruits in a 900 division get moved there after the form letters have gone out and they just forget to have them send one.

The Page, 800 and 900 Divisions, within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will be of interest to you since you have a recruit in a performing division. I believe that Division 936 is Triple Threat. Send letters to the address in that page since others with loved ones in that division have received the form letter.

His recruiter has his address in their system because they have to keep tabs on their recruits. Call the office
