Hi, My daughter left for bootcamp on April 23. graduation is set for June 21st. I am asking for any suggestions for hotels near there. I've never been to Illinois, so this is all a new adventure for our family . Also, if there are any other moms of a female nuke seaman, I could communicate with....that would be3 great.

There were suggestions within the brochure sent with the form letter (http://www.mwrgl.com/gen_info/rtc_graduation/RTCbrochure_10_2012.pdf) and you can get assistance with booking from the MWRGL through http://www.mwrgl.com/gen_info/rtc_graduation/hotels.htm if you need it. There are also suggestions in the discussion, Recommended Places to Stay, within PIR Reference Information.

The closest hotels are:

The Navy Gateway Inns & Suites, which is located on the main part of the base, about 1.5 miles from RTC. There are some restrictions, but your SR can be your sponsor for you to stay there. http://dodlodging.net or 1-877-NavyBed (1-877-628-9233). If you stay there, it’s best if you have your own vehicle since taxis/shuttles pick up and drop off at the gate rather than at the hotel.
The Navy Lodge, which is located 1.9 miles off base from RTC. Your SR can be your sponsor for you to stay there. https://reservations.staydod.com/hotelSearch.do?action=View&pro... or 847-689-1485.

I see you have joined PIR 06/21/2013 TG 32 9 Divisions (229-236 and 932); I also invite you to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) as well. What will your SR's rating (job/specialty) be? There are groups for most of the ratings and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to plan for PIR weekend. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend.

Hi, My son graduated in May and I drove from Pittsburgh. The brochure you got with the letter from the commanding officer is an excellent guide. My daughter and I stayed at the Ramada four miles of easy ride from base. Nice hotel, has indoor pool but we were too busy to use it. We took the hotel shuttle to and from graduation because my son had to leave right away to check in A school. But I had the gate pass and was permitted to drive him to his ship to sign him out and back in.

I hope you here from others who've "been there, done that".

I also would like to share my son's "almost went to nuke school" story, he's an Engineman, and I know he's in the right place.

I spotted your post while I was looking for Engineman discussions, so I'm going back to my search. I wish you a good trip and all the best for your daughter.

Linda

LindaD, there are no groups of just loved ones in EN, but you may find some in these groups:  Engineers, Snipe Moms(enginers), and/or Snipe Moms. Since he just had PIR in May, you will also want to check out Great Lakes A School Q&A and GL A-school moms. You can also check out the Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Facebook Page. The Rating Information Card for EN can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/en.pdf.

Thank you I saw the Snipe story then I couldn't find it again.

You are very welcome. I'm glad I could help.

Which ramada did you stay at? Navy Lodge is full.

The one in Waukegan is #4 on the brochure. Very nice continental breakfast. It was nice to be shuttled to graduation, the driver took no traffic back roads to base; I had my GPS on everywhere and it was very enjoyable driving around. Make sure you and everyone with you has proper ID at ALL times to get on base.

I saw quite a few turned away at the gate.

Hi, my son will be graduating from bootcamp on August 8th, 2014. I just need to know if anyone can recommend a nice hotel that is within close proximity to the base., I live in Florida and will be driving to Chicago.  Please let me know if there is any suggestions.

Thank you,

Cece
