We have a rental car because we have so much family up there. We are flying in on the 4th and staying in Chicago with my sister-in-law who is pregnant with her first baby and then we are checking in at the Navy Lodge on the 5th and staying there for 2 nights then we are heading to Milwaukee to stay with my brother Saturday night and flying out Sunday evening. My son is flying out on Saturday so we will get all day Friday after graduation with him. I am mega excited! Also, my Dad who lives here is Phoenix will be in Milwaukee at that time so they are all coming down after the graduation to see him. I am not sure how much family will be there but from what I understand there will be quite a few coming down after graduation to see him before he leaves. There are a ton of people in Milwaukee family and friends that hasn't seen him since he was a little boy so they are making strides to get down there to catch a glimpse of him....LOL! That is all they will be able to do because his wife and I will be hoarding him....LOL!

Hi ChellyMay, we are staying at the Navy Lodge also!  I would love to meet you!  Are you going to the meet and greet on Thursday evening?  Ah, just realized you're son's PIR is September not August!  Enjoy and have a great time!

Yes I am. I would love to meet you as well. We will be at the meet and greet at Sundance Saloon. I can't wait!

Lynn,

We are coming from Upland Ca. which is 30 miles east of LA. What airline are you traveling?

Seby's Mom--I grew up in San Dimas and went to Pomona Catholic for high school! Small world!

Hi everyone! My son also graduates on 9/6. I will have to meet up with him after ceremony, as we have a large family and 4 tickets is not enough for all of us. Can someone let me know about hotels up there and give me an idea of room rates? I am trying to decide when to drive up from Kentucky. Thanks!

they have family rooms at red carpet in up to 6 people at 70 a night

Hi Micheladylaura, my son too graduates Sept 6th. I went on Google and typed in Hotels , Great Lakes and found the closest Hotel to the base. Sleep Inn Lake Bluff and that was $72 a night. Navy Lodge is like $66 a night. Navy lodge has a Taxi service. Where we are at has a shuttle..

Thanks Lynn! That is great info. I am thinking more and more about taking a half day from work on Thursday, grabbing his brothers and driving up Thursday and staying the night. That way I don't have to deal with morning rush hour Chicago traffic. It is about a 7 hour drive from where we live in KY.

Lynn, I ended up getting a room at the La Quinta Inn & Suites for Thursday night. I love staying at La Quinta hotels. Super excited now!

micheladylaura, I like La Quinta too. I just wante to be in a place closest to the base  :)    Are you going to the meet and greet with "Sarge" Thursday night, Sept 5th?

Yes. I will be at the meet and greet with Sarge that Thursday night Sept. 5th. My daughter-in-law will not make it but my husband and I will be there.
