While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My Son Will Arrive at Great Lakes tonight
Hi--My name is Connie and my son just left for boot camp. He should be arriving there sometime tonight. My heart hurts, however, my oldest son joined 6 years ago, so I've been through a lot of these emotions before, and although I'm just as sad to have my second son leave, a lot of the unknowns that I had before aren't as unknown as they were 6 years ago.
My oldest is an MA and my middle son is going in as an MA as well. Looking forward to chatting with other moms and crying with you, and maybe I can even offer some insight and support to those of you going through this for the first time. Although it was 6 years ago I remember every emotion, every tear, every everything.

Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in August, to connect with others with loved ones who left today and may have PIR together.
You may want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and PIR Reference Information. Once you know your SR’s PIR date and/or division number, watch in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and/or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that once it has been created. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening, but you will also want to check out the other Pages in all of the groups.
Master at Arms is a rating very dear to my heart since my Sailor is an MA. Join San Antonio MA's; the discussion, Break down week by week, will let you know what happens at NTTC Lackland (San Antonio). You will also want to join MAA Moms. Other groups to check out are New MAA Mom's (it has not been very active, but is picking up lately) and Security Sailors (it is not as active and includes loved ones of Sailors from other ratings as well). The Rating Information Card for MA can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ma.pdf. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) to help you know how to plan your weekend once you get the form letter.

You are very welcome. You will find that a few things have changed since your Sailor had PIR, such as the strictly enforced limit on guests, but some things will be the same. "A" School is probably different too since there is just the one "A" School now for MA and there were at least 3 when your first one went through.

Wow, your two went close together. That had to be rough. I had 6 years to adjust. I did get the phone call that he'd arrived. That's when I really started crying. He'd been en route from Denver since 6 a.m.,layovers at both airports, so we got to text and speak alot. But when the phone call came it kind of knocked the wind out of me.

I just went through graduation of my oldest son for the Navy on July 4th so like you, I've been down this road before. Its not any easier the second time around, if anything I think its harder. My oldest son is now in Pensacola waiting too school up. Hopefully soon.

Skeeter4666, what is your Sailor's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups for many of the ratings with "A" School in Pensacola. You may want to join Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!! and Parents of A School Sailors in Pensacola.
Also, join the groups I mentioned above. What is your SR's rating going to be? There are groups for most ratings and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend.

Hi Connie, my name is Tara and my son also arrived at BC on the 14th. I am a new Navy mom and am overwhelmed by all of the emotion I have been dealing with. I feel like I am on a roller coaster that I can't get off! I am so very proud of him and . excited for him but I still wish he were home with us.
My son is going in as a MMS and I am having a hard time connecting with other moms or finding any groups, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tara: Sorry, I'm having a very hard time figuring out how to maneuver around this site. I try to reply to each and every person, but there isn't always a reply link. Guess that means I'll have to spend more time on this. When my oldest joined 6 years ago there was a site called Navy-Parents. It was a lifesaver for me. I met so many people going through the same thing, and I made friends for life. Many of us got together the night before PIR and met in person, which was such a blessing.
What is MMS? My son is going to be a Master at Arms (military police). First off, the most important thing I can tell you is you will survive. 6 years ago I wondered if I would. My son left during the week of Thanksgiving, and the holidays were just awful. No calls, no nothing. So I felt like a piece of me had died. But now as I go through it again, although it still hurts, I think I've convinced myself that this is just temporary.
When they get to A school you can ship them their phone, laptop, etc., so although they are still away, it's easier because you can call or text them whenever.
Right now, just sit back and wait to see the little boy you raised turn into a man. I've often said that with my first I raised an awesome young man, but the Navy put the icing on the cake.
Where are you from? We live in Colorado.
