My son is an HM leaving Sept 5 2013 for bootcamp. I am looking to connect with other moms/wives who might share this timeline. Thanks!

Hang in there! It is not easy. A day doesn't go by that I don't shed tears and feel the pain of the separation. It will get better with time. My oldest son is in the Navy, stationed in California. This is my 2nd go-round. Doesn't make it any easier, but at least I know what to expect. Be grateful you have him for one day after PIR. Some leave a few hours after PIR and that is all the time families have with their sailors. We are from FL also but we will be flying so as to not miss too much work. I sent you a friend request:)
XAVIERsMOM, Leave comes after "A" School, not before except for those with PIR near Christmas and the holiday stand down at the "A" Schools. He will be able to be home sometime over the Christmas break at "A" School though.
I see that your SR will go to “A” School for Cryptologic Technician Networks (CTN). Join the groups, CTN, cryptology at pensacola moms, Cryptology ~ CTI ~ CTM ~ CTN ~ CTR ~ CTT ~, Sailors at Corry Station holding or in school, and Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!!. The Rating Information Card for CTN can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ctn.pdf. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend once you get the form letter. Since CTN is one of the Spook ratings, the information within the Page, OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes To Your Profile), will be important for you. I invite you to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and to check out the other Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) as well.
Thank you so much, you've been quite helpful.
You are very welcome.
Mine is a corpsman too! So they will be going to A school together in Texas:) I echo your words about how much harder it is than expected. I cry daily and have a heaviness in my heart. Writing to him about my day and funny things really helps:)
Since your SR has a contract for Hospital Corpsman (HM), sometime between now and the end of BC, join HM (Hospital Corpsman) A School in San Antonio and check out Basic Medical Technician Corpsman Program Facebook Page. The Rating Information Card for HM can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/hm.pdf; it indicates 19 weeks, but "A" School is 14 weeks after classing up. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.
