Hang in there!  It is not easy.  A day doesn't go by that I don't shed tears and feel the pain of the separation.  It will get better with time.  My oldest son is in the Navy, stationed in California.  This is my 2nd go-round.  Doesn't make it any easier, but at least I know what to expect.  Be grateful you have him for one day after PIR.  Some leave a few hours after PIR and that is all the time families have with their sailors.  We are from FL also but we will be flying so as to not miss too much work.  I sent you a friend request:)

XAVIERsMOM, Leave comes after "A" School, not before except for those with PIR near Christmas and the holiday stand down at the "A" Schools. He will be able to be home sometime over the Christmas break at "A" School though.

I see that your SR will go to “A” School for Cryptologic Technician Networks (CTN). Join the groups, CTN, cryptology at pensacola moms, Cryptology ~ CTI ~ CTM ~ CTN ~ CTR ~ CTT ~, Sailors at Corry Station holding or in school, and Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!!. The Rating Information Card for CTN can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ctn.pdf. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend once you get the form letter. Since CTN is one of the Spook ratings, the information within the Page, OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes To Your Profile), will be important for you. I invite you to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and to check out the other Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) as well.

Thank you so much, you've been quite helpful.

You are very welcome.

XAVIERsMOM, my son left on the 5th too and believe me, you aren't alone. I didn't realize how very hard this would be. My son just turned 20 in April, and like yours he lived at college his first year, which was only 25 minutes away. I could always sneak in little visits to drop stuff off to him if I wanted to. He's been living at home for the last year and a half almost so his absence now is really felt. He'll also be headed to Pensacola for A school, but as a CTM. Lots of similarities!! Hang in there, as that's all we can do and look forward to that next phone call.
My son also left on sept 5th for boot camp. He is going to be a corpsman. I knew I was going to miss him but I can't believe how sad I am now after the fact. That last 15 sec phone call made reality come crashing down when I realized I wouldn't hear his voice again for four weeks.

Mine is a corpsman too!  So they will be going to A school together in Texas:)  I echo your words about how much harder it is than expected.  I cry daily and have a heaviness in my heart.  Writing to him about my day and funny things really helps:)

Since your SR has a contract for Hospital Corpsman (HM), sometime between now and the end of BC, join HM (Hospital Corpsman) A School in San Antonio and check out Basic Medical Technician Corpsman Program Facebook Page. The Rating Information Card for HM can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/hm.pdf; it indicates 19 weeks, but "A" School is 14 weeks after classing up. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.

my oldest son was HM. now youngest is in BC as of sept 5..he is MA. is there a link for MA?

I am glad I am not the only one. I try to make light of it and tell everyone I'm fine, but in reality it seems like a constant struggle not to cry. Feels like walking in a dark cloud. Today's the first day since wed that I woke up and didn't feel sick to my stomach. Since we don't have their addresses yet, I have started a running letter to send when we do. I agree, it makes me feel much better. I think when they do to a school it will be much better for us bc we will have free communication again (I hope!!)

my son left on the 5th as well...so if all goes well we will be at pir in nov. sometime..

We should get the letter any day now letting us know!
