Greetings,
Although I have several sailors in my family (2 brothers-in-law, ret., nephew, active duty), this process is new to me as my only son, is the only one of my four children in the military. I have a few questions and hope that someone can answer them. When my son left for boot camp, Sep. 10th, he packed a large suitcase for us to take to him when we fly to GL for PIR on Nov. 8th. Will he be able to take that suitcase with him to A school? My other question is, will he have any time off from A school (Pensacola) to come home for Christmas? Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer my questions.
Proud mom and missing my boy!
Maria

He may be able to take the suitcase because he will be able to check it along with his Sea bag and use his backpack for his carry on. BUT he has to be able to carry everything when he gets to Pensacola and a large suitcase is probably too much, so perhaps you want to choose a few things (favorite underwear, one set of clothes, electronics) to take to him at the airport and mail the rest to him after he is at "A" School. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend,
"A" Schools shut down for a break around Christmas and New Years and he will be able to have leave for part of that time. He will have duties at "A" School when he is not on leave, but will have some Liberty as well. That is one time when Sailors are able to go in the hole as far as leave, but by taking leave then, he may not have much time left to take between "A" School and his first duty station.
Have you received the form letter indicating 11/08/2013 as the PIR date?
Thank you for responding. Yes, I received the form letter indicating PIR will be Nov. 8th.
Thanks. I will let ellen and FTLW know so they can get the group going. Keep checking PIR 11/08/2013 TG 52 and join when it is up.
