Welcome to the Division Discussion for Divisions 007 and 008

These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.

Get to know each other, your SRs are!

Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.

Every single question that is asked is important Every single concern is genuine Every single member is important to us We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.

Hang in there!!!

Northern CA, in Auburn we are about 45 min from Sacramento and 90 from Reno

My son found a dog walking around the streets 2 years ago and brought him home, he knew I wouldn't be able to say no. He was right. He's a great dog and gets along well with our other dog and our cat, but my son was the head dog walker. Bruce (the dog) seems to wonder where his boy is. He went a little crazy when he smelled the shoes my son sent back. Whined and ran it the front door...it made me wonder what he thought.

Dogs seem to have the hardest time.

Morning moms, not sure if you have seen the request for state baskets to be raffled off at the meet and greet the night before PIR? If interested please chime in on the main discussion board.
Anyone get a call today? We haven't gotten a letter besides the form letter, not surprised because he isn't a letter writer, but still...have to keep telling myself the no news is good news. I did actually stalk the mailman today.

Got a letter this week, very short but nice to see his writing, but no phone call yesterday, had to phones forwarded to my cell to be on the safe side.

Got a call from my SR today, yay! He had his wisdom teeth out this week and said he was a little sore, but felt good. He sounded great!

I received a phone call yesterday.  He's very homesick and says he doesn't want to be there.  He just wants to come home.  He said that he started packing in the middle of the night.  (Of course I don't know where he thought he would go).  There's a test tomorrow (Tuesday).  He says he needs to pass or he will be put back 2 weeks.  This call was difficult.  He is getting all my letters.  He told me he wrote three to me.  I guess they only get certain times when the mail goes out, because I asked him to send me the information on his phone card to add more minutes, but he said that he wouldn't be able to send it that day.  The mail had already gone out.  This may sound harsh, but I was counting the days for him to go to boot camp.  If he doesn't make it through, I don't know what he will do.  He's a smart guy.  He didn't do as well as he should have on the asvab.  He just wants to remain a kid.  Is the homesickness just part of the process?

I agree Eliza, hard call and letters!!  My SR is not a happy one these days, says their division is having lots of issues, was surprised  they even got to make calls yesterday, they were cut short on the way over.  The day they shipped out the captain that was giving us their itinerary for the day said to expect homesickness, even tears and regret.  It is all part of the process and for us to to keep relaying to them that they are strong and that they can do this.  In my letters I always include something like this, not sure if it helps or not but it gives him something to think about???  Hang in there, from what I keep reading it gets a bit easier each week???

Yes.  This helps!  I have written everyday and in every letter I tell him he can do this.  I know he can do this.  He just needs to set his mind to do it.  I know that this is all part of him becoming a sailor.  He did tell me that the guys there are good.  I know my SR and he is making friends.  That's the way he is.  I also know he may be fine this morning.  It's hard to just get bits and pieces of news.  I am praying for him everyday.  I tell him that as well.  I know he will make a great sailor, if he can just get through.  Thanks for the advise.

Boy, our SR's sound a lot alike.  Mine is very social as well, and I know this is so what he wants to do, he has a very large close family & a girlfriend as well, so I know he is missing everyone so much.

I will remind him how hard he worked to lose weight just to get in.  He was 230lbs and the recruiter told him he would have to lose 25 lbs.  He did that and signed the paperwork for delayed entry.  He worked and about 3 months he lost more weight so that before he went to boot camp he was down to 179lbs.  I was really proud of him.  He's very muscular, so he's strong.  He was a wrestler in high school.  Everything came easy, so now he has to work and I don't think he likes it much.  But of course who does.  :)
