I finally got my letter today!! Anyone else? I thought this would be a good place for us to share some of the experiences of our soldiers with each other.

Didn't get my letter yet but my son's recruiter called and told me he is in Ship 02/DIV 906. He's a Nuke so I think that's why he's assigned there. Thanks Holly/Ship 02 Div 906 for the FB info - I'm going to go check it out now!
Paula, who will be joining us when she gets back from vacation, got a personal letter from her son yesterday (I'm the "mail monitor" while she's out of town). I couldn't share anything until I was sure she saw the scanned copy I sent her, but I'll tell you now that he said that they are a "Marching Division". He said that (as of Oct. 16th, when the letter was written) he was bored because their daily routine at that time consisted of "nothing but taking notes, learning how to perfectly fold and organize their stuff, and just marching...for hours. He said that he was already making friends and getting to know a lot of the people in their division.
Oh, he also sent her an "adopt your sailor" flyer which is where you can go up to bootcamp and pick up your recruit on Thankgiving day at 8AM and return him by 8PM that night. You can also take one other recruit with you if you want. You have to register first though. I'm guessing we may all get those flyers soon.
Received a call from my SR yesterday, early afternoon, reward for good work detail. He left on the 15th so I was so excited when I got his call. He is in this division. So happy to have gotten some time to speak with him. My husband text me and told me our letter arrived this morning so can't wait to get home to see it.
That's great news! I know how excited I was when the medic called me and, while I wasn't allowed to talk to my son, I could hear him cutting up in the background. It made me sooo happy just to hear his voice.
I had to chuckle because I could just imagine how good it felt to hear him. Good for you. Ice said that he will be calling on Sunday again, if no one gets into trouble, so I will be at home this time so that my husband and other children will be able to hear his voice too. We are all looking forward to it and praying that no one causes any trouble. Lol.
Just got the form letter yesterday. Mine is also in 02/906. Haven't heard from him yet though. Am keeping my fingers crossed it will be this weekend. I am one lost momma right now.
Thanks everyone! The support is really great to have, and I appreciate it. I know we're all going through the same thing.
I haven't received a phone call or a personal letter as of yet, but I did receive the box. I'm curious about what's NOT in the box - lol. There's the hoodie he wore, his phone and phone charger, but no shoes, pants or shirt. I didn't think they could keep anything, so does anyone have an idea of what may have happened to his clothing? That was a little weird.
Tomorrow is my son's 18th birthday, and I'm sure he'll be busy, but I hope he doesn't get down.
One other question - are all the SR's in this group going to be able to have time off on Thanksgiving?
Thanks!
I'm told that the Navy offers to allow them to donate or throw away whatever they don't want to send home in the (sometimes) smelly box. Plus, they have to pay the shipping cost out of their first paycheck, so a lot of them try keep the boxes light.
According to the Thanksgiving letter that I am uploading on the site right now, it looks only some get the day off. I'm not sure if it is due to being on watch or if it's the amount of time they've been at boot camp Not sure, but I'll bet one of our Sr. Mom's knows. Sorry for the poor print - looks like the Navy ran out of toner for their printer.
Has anyone gotten a phone call this week other than for missing information? I'm anxious to know what life is like for our recruits in our division.
