I hope someone can respond and give me a few words of encouragement on how they got through the days immediately after their son/daughter left. I feel like I'm not going to be able to function.  Any advice is appreciated.

I agree it's hard for both you and them just remember to write letters and have friends and family write, it does make the difference. Been there. You both will get thru it. Good luck and God Bless

Yes I am on week 3 and writing letters is helping tremendously.  It makes me feel closer to him.  Thanks for your encouraging words!

I am still a basket case....my son's wife (which we don't get along very well....long story) gave me his address so I can at least write him. I did receive my first letter from him and he mentioned his graduation, 1/3/14! He has four spots, his wife, my ex and his wife and me. Longer story shorten, my husband has been in his life since he was 9 and knowing he isn't invited or his brother really hurts! I can't go without them....what a mess! I am hoping the Navy wakes him up and he comes back to his family which has missed him for the past 2 1/2 years! Very sad Mum!!!

:-(

Confused, if he is just leaving boot camp...why has he been gone 2 1/2 years?  Regarding tickets, sticky situation.  Hard to give up control,,,I am the worst, but ultimately it is their choice.  I think it should have been you, his dad, his wife and his brother and then both spouses would be left out.  I don't mind traveling without my husband as necessary, but some couples absolutely won't.  Sent friend request.  I have daughter-in-law too, now in good place but always a hair away from disaster.

Another thought , if he is willing to give ticket to brother, maybe spouses could come for dinner/site-seeing after the (3 hour ceremony.) We arrived day before...so much to see!  Lastly, Congrats.  You won't stop crying during the graduation...so moving.

Sounds like he's been estranged from his mom's side of the family for the past 2 1/2 years.

Sorry I threw out my two cents to Jordans Mum on open discussion...still trying to figure out how this works!

I never heared from my son on Christmas....very sad! I have no way to call him but yet I heard they were all enjoying their day. They posted pictures on the computers and telephones but nothing to his family!! He is on Ship 09 Div 045...does anyone know how I can view the pictures, maybe catch a glimps of him someway? Also, he graduates on January 3rd, can I view this online??? Thanks!

I'm not so sure anyone gets a phone call on Christmas??   sad -- but it is Boot Camp, and maybe I'm wrong, but unless that unit/division or recruit earned a special phone call privilege that day I'm not so sure phone calls are the norm on Xmas Day??   There might be some Christmas photos online now at the Boot Camp website--see LINK below.    AND YES you can view the PIR online -  That same website tells all about it, so you can start looking around there now to be ready for your son's PIR....great site for "staying in the loop"    I think you can purchase a CD later, of your son's PIR ceremony.  See the link too "click" on the PIR live streaming video link/ chat?? Try that tomorrow Chicago time and do a practice run so you're ready on January 3rd.   Apparently that actual video stream goes live during the actual event?? so much info there!   (also, Booters don't have access to cell phones or facebook while in Boot, so no one would have posted their own photos online)

Thank you for the information! I will defintiely be prepared to view his ceremony and also order a CD. I don't think his wife (so-called) will be offering me this information. She put on FB that she spoke with him for 4 hours on Christmas and somehow she received a picture of him in uniform while talking on the phone?? I was just curious! Again, thanks for the information!

You might even connect with another mom/dad who has a recruit in the same ship/div. Just a bit a advice - it may be difficult but you have to swallow a bitter pill and reach out to your daughter-in-law. SHE is your conduit to your son. Take every opportunity you get to make nice. If she is a good wife to your son and genuinely loves him, then you need to let things go and take a back seat.
Good luck.
